it's exceeded 2.5 I think at least 8 or 9 times, and 2.5 is usually the index now for an "explosive" drama
for reference, even "the knockout" which is considered a huge blockbuster by all means hit 2.8 at it's peak, so 3 isn't really the standard anymore I believe
either way, the numbers tteotm have been hitting are breaking many recent records in xianxia genre! :D

I think if you look on Chinese sites, you'll figure out what I mean. The Chinese industry is completely different, and while hate for any drama is completely normal and TTEOTM by all means has production issues, the hate it's been receiving is absolutely unproportional since day 1...
I mean, for genuine metrics like heat index or viewership, TTEOTM is blowing it out of the water, but things that can be bought by capital (spammed by water armies) like ratings and hot searches are all negative and almost illogical, so the discrepancy between the two is explained by the reddit post haha

seriously! antis call it a flop but it broke 28% in viewership which is a new high for xianxia

not really, TTEOTM is so successful based on viewership and numbers, but all of its weibo hot searches are all trashy, which doesn't make sense...unless big capital are buying the negative hot search topics

tldr TTEOTM gets so much (paid) negative press because industry investors and capital don't want it's unique storytelling + complex characters (none of main cast are mary sues) to succeed and set a new standard for the quality of xianxia
no wonder opinions of this drama are so polarized

my general sentiment is that even though the drama isn't without flaws, the characters and their interactions (plus the beautiful costumes that are outside of the usual flowery pastels of xianxia palette) truly are refreshing in this genre

technically yea he's of much higher status, since he's the king and she's...(just in terms of official status) general ye qingyu's sister at best? sheng kingdom's noble family? doesn't really have any weight in jing kingdom haha

help i just learned...traditionally, the bride wears red wedding robes if she marries someone of a lower political status, and green wedding robes if she marries someone of higher status

so...tantai jin wearing green wedding robes could indicate that he views ye xiwu's marriage to him as degrading for ye xiwu, even if he's a king 😭

people are saying the last time a female actress got slammed like this was yang mi and angelababy, because haters were trying to prevent them from gaining explosive popularity so...it's probably a sign that haters are scared BL is also about to reach a new career high!

at the very least, fans of LYX, wang hedi, xu kai, ren jialun, angelababy, yu shuxin, and many other of BL's celeb friends are flooding her comments with love and positivity

Yea I think TTJ's purpose with the soul wedge was to isolate YXW, but XL recognized that YXW didn't mean to hurt him and TTJ didn't directly kill him even tho he could've, which is why he first addressed TTJ as brother and left him the heart guarding scale in his letter to him :(

TTJ only meant to hurt XL; in ep 25 XL himself asks why TTJ didn't use YXW to kill him, but rather only immobilize him, so I think the soul wedge was only to make him extremely weak
also when TTJ orders NBY to capture XL and YXW, he specifically mentions to keep them both alive

take this with a grain of salt but

"devils" are people who cultivate not abiding by heaven's laws (i.e. acts like killing people for their own power, using the souls of dead bodies instead of allowing them to rest, etc); generally seen as evil

"demons" are simply animal/plant beings that cultivated and formed a sentient being/human form (i.e. fox demon, flower demon) they aren't good or bad (the english word "demon" has a negative connotation to it, but the chinese word itself doesn't imply negativity)

@falcon yep, on douban, it has a rating of 6.4. This isn't to say it isnt loved in China (it was extremely popular) but rather that Yang Mi has a lot of anti-fans (in addition to her large fanbase) who give poor ratings just to despise her.
Then there's also fans of the novel that the drama was based on who give poor ratings because the drama didn't live up to their expectation of the novel or told a story slightly different from the novel.
Ratings really don't mean sht in China, as the more popular a drama becomes, more antis will immaturely drag it down. :(

@myra you should definitely try it! don't let the ratings hinder you, as that drama is, to date, one of the most popular and successful dramas within the mainland and internationally as well! It's a unique storyline with a magical twist and gorgeous costumes and sets.

Ignore the ratings on chinese websites. Even famous and well-received shows such as Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and Princess Agents have maybe 5 or 6 point rating. Currently airing Legend of Fuyao is loved internationally, but domestically (while still very successful) only has 6.8 rating as well. No one really looks at ratings in china, they only look at how many views/hits the drama gets.

In addition, there are a lot of immature fans who can't stop comparing this to the previous versions and--without even watching this version--give this a poor rating. Meteor Garden 2018 is doing quite well in China, regardless of the ratings so rest assured!!

The drama gets broadcasted on TV 2 eps a day Monday through Thursday. For VIP members of Tencent (which is a streaming service much as Viki and Dramafever), 4 episodes are released ahead of the broadcasting schedule. Hence, on Viki and other legal streaming websites, they only support up to ep 32 currently. Illegal streaming websites (Kissasian, Maplestage, etc) carry up to ep 36 though.

Not completely confirmed, as I've only seen one website with this info...we can only hope it's true! I'm anticipating this drama so muchhh

Help, I'm bawling. A part of me hates Ethan for not attempting to rescue Yang Mi the second she was knocked out but instead rather bringing up to his father...but at the same time, my heart sours for him because of all the politics.
Then another part of me wants Yang Mi to wake up and hold a bit of vengeance for Ethan and his many facades but then I also do want our two main leads to be cute and couple-y together. My poor small heart can't handle this dramaaa

The plot has a lot of grandeur without making every scene overly dramatic nor saccharine. It definitely has its epic moments, and I highly suggest it! If you're worried about it getting draggy, there's no need. So far (I've watched until ep 30) the drama is fast-paced and wraps up each arc nicely without needlessly prolonging it.
