To me, Yoichi has had a major impact in Akira's life. He "helped " him with being gay after being rejected. Yoichi has influenced his way of thinking, his sex life, his philosophy, taste in music, etc. Even when he's saying deep meaningful things to Kanata, it's the things that Youchi told him. He REALLY likes Kanata but Yolichi was, for lack of a better term, his fuck buddy. They were friends and they kept having sex with each other. He probably feels guilty and he'll end up comparing the two. He doesn't think he deserves Kanata. This is my interpretation.

It's been a long time since I've resonated so much with a character in a BL. I completely understand where Akira and why he's pushing Kanata away. I know I'm bias but this is such a good series.

Yeah, 8 years. He definitely helped me out. Back then I know I would have fell in a deep depression and have suicidal thoughts had he not been in my life. It's probably why I don't regret it. And when we broke up, I wasn't depressed, isn't that odd?

Well I don't see it that way, it's all good. I probably would have been in a deep depression if I hadn't met him. Finally feeling pretty and accepted helped me. In hindsight, I should have waited, he was a grown man after all, but I didn't regret it. Would I recommend it, no, but I understand it, if that makes sense.
