Uk's situation was different though. Since he's energy gate had been closed for 20 years he didn't know how to control his powers. And so his powers went to his right hand. Drawing the sword means the mage has the power/energy to do so.

So when Master Lee tells Jang Uk that whoever draws the sword will die, I'm pretty sure he was talking figuratively. Mu Deok being able to draw the sword means that she no longer has to be Mu Deok, she can be Naksu now.

I don't Bu Yeon is fighting to occupy the body. Bu Yeon only surfaces when Mu Deok/Naksu is in danger and Bu Yeon needs to save her and the body. since they share the same body, Bu Yeon needs to protect the body so that Bu Yeon's soul and Naksu's both don't die.
