Exactly! That’s why also the scene where he waits for them at home is meaningless. It only shows that JC is still not over him.

I felt maybe they didn’t want to make it a HE in order to not take away from the meaning of everything WZ has done and went through before. But this ending here also takes away from the meaning of everything he’s done. 1 it renders the entire love story meaningless because if revenge and getting famous for taking the evil Emperor down is more important than being with your pregnant wife there is no real love to begin with. Because in the drama here he had a choice and the Emperor would still have died.
2 This ending here takes away from his character development. In the final confrontation he seemed just desperate and enraged and revengeful. So the words he said to JC before dying seemed empty, they didn’t fit what we just witnessed. So disappointing. In my mind WZ is not like this. Such a shame that they had to ruin this character.

Me too. Terrible and stupid ending. The drama had so much potential! If they already change the ending of the novel they could have made a HE instead.

It totally ruined the drama for me. At least in the novel he died because he took down the Emperor with him and saved PY who promised to take care of Yueluo in the future. But here he basically committed suicide. He didn’t have to stay inside because the Emperor was already lying under the wooden beams and couldn’t have escaped anyway and PY didn’t need saving here. WZ could just have gone out the door instead of shutting the door. So this means it was more important to him to be known as the man who killed the Emperor than to take care of his pregnant wife? And go see the world with her as he promised? He had lied to her again when he promised her this because obviously he had wanted to die with the Emperor all along. Which ruins the entire romance story for me. I couldn’t even feel so sad because I was so angry at WZ.

My thoughts about the ending

The chemistry between RJL and LL is sooo good! I hope they will do another historical drama together with political scheming etc but then I want to see them as a power couple working together like they did in the Nanling arc and a HE 💫

I felt so incredibly sad for JC grieving but my heart broke for WZ 😢 He is so lonely and fights on all fronts, running here and there, she yelling at him to get lost 😢 When he sent Dr Cui to her and waited hidden by the door that was so sad! Also foreshadowing the ending imo.

Ep34 was so heartbreaking😢
