He is really in love from the get go, if you pay attention you will see how he is helpful from the beginning and LS only enhanced it as they are bound to spend time together and ML is knowing more about her and falling for her (He is in denial stage and take LS as an excuse and boldly express his feelings.)

If JMJ wont stab her than according to the law they dismembered Aeng Cho and give her a very painful death (tear apart from animals). JMJ give her a less and quick death by stabbing her and wish to meet in another life and be happy, as it was not possible in their lif eback then. Hope it help.

This is one intelligent writing I must say, layers and clues which bound us as a viewer to keep close attention to connect. If you get it its thoroughly enjoyable drama. One of its kind. They gave answers to every possible twist in the same manner from beginning to the end. The way we were wondering how they will cover so many things but you see it isn't rushed rather very detailed and full of nuances made a treat to watch. I'm gonna watch it again for sure.
