Most of the time I forgot she was a male in a woman's body, because they didn't really show him in modern life, just a few lines and him falling into the pond. I loved the mysteries and how she and Lu Shao Yang solved them and just thought of her as a woman. I did see the point of the drama showing how woman are suppressed in the past and in the present and I liked that part. It was just so hard to keep remembering Liu Xi Chao was actually a male.
Quibbles I have: The evil sisters turned into sweet sisters, but never faced any punishment for what they'd done. They tried to have Liu Xi Chao killed so it was quite a stretch to see them suddenly so remorseful. But then again I loved when the four sisters and mom saved everyone and the useless father was put in his place by them. Also I hated Bing Er dying, but at least we got to see her in the end.
The ending gives vibes for a S2, but even without it I still thought it was well worth watching. Ke Ying is a delight. I loved her in Supervisor Husband and The Familiar Stranger.
I would love a S2, but it would have to include Ke Ying and the ending of this didn't include her, so I don't know how that would go.
FYI: Last 6 episodes on IQIYI are Premium so you have to pay extra. This is the first time I've come across that. Fortunately I found out after watching one or two episodes so ended up dropping it.
I have a question. Nobody knows who the wife is, but I just looked up to be sure and marriage licenses are public record in Korea. Wouldn't that be one of the first places for news media or gossip writers to check?
You reviewed this perfectly. I almost dropped it early on because I thought it was going to be silly, but instead it just got better and better and I ended up loving it. I hope there is a S2, but that rarely happens. At least we got a happy ending.
coincidentally I too submitted to create a new page for this drama Don't forget me as there wasn't one when I…
Thank you for at least being able to get a page up for this drama, for correcting everything that's wrong and giving a link to the correct info. I appreciate it!
I just finished watching this and am now reading reviews. Mostly I wanted to let you know that someone did read your review! :)
I almost quit watching after about 30 minutes because I thought I knew where it was going. I so glad I didn't. I love how different the story telling was, but it was so very sad. Anyway, thank you for writing your review.
You translate everything literally??Watch the context, dude!!The "school" is not as much a school as it's the…
I wasn't saying this is an actual school drama. I was comparing the petty fighting and trying to ruin each other to what you see in typical modern school dramas. Just a random thought that made me laugh while watching the drama.
I just finished binge-watching this drama, and dare I say, it's the best C-drama with a time travel theme.I love…
Oh, totally agree about Jirong and her brother. What kind of person chooses the man who tried to ruin her life and left her for dead over the man who loved her and was totally committed to her?

I think you're referring to the place where Jiang Li was sent away. I was talking about where Jiang Li competed for the top prize playing the instrument. And obviously not a modern school, but it had all the typical fighting of a school. Anyway, your comment made me laugh!
A school drama? Too funny. And why is a 34 year old playing a 16 year old school girl? And how old the the Duke…
They seemed to until the end, at least the ones who were scheming and sadistic and crazy. I don't think I've watched a drama with this many downright evil people everywhere. And everyone blamed Jiang Li when their nefarious plans went awry. No one, including the husband until the bitter end, took responsibility for their actions.
Tf is that ending. Chinese dramas and unaliving people for no good reason. mtchewww
Haven't gotten to the end, but I read what happens (I like to be prepared). I'm already so mad that they killed off Tong'er and then to find out that the Duke's two adorable companions are going to die just about makes me want to quit watching. I've really got to stick to happy dramas. I can't take the heartache!
Ep. 28 I'm so mad. I knew this was going to happen.
That evil Royal Diviner tried to kill Jiang Li and instead killed Tong'er. All because of the sadistic Ji Shu Ran. At least now they know the extent of her evil, but still. Why Tong'er? If the turtle dies I'm going to have to have a word with the writers! That would be a step too far.
Ep. 29 This is ridiculous. Saving Ji Shu Ran because her father is going to pray for her? This is one seriously messed up system.
