In my opinion, no. I was disappointed in it. I'll give more details if you want.
I just finished it today so these are my thoughts.
To me ML/FL seemed more like brother/sister. I didn't feel any chemistry. Some funny parts, but towards the last episodes I started skimming. The older woman/younger guy romance I didn't care about (espeically the mother and father) so I skipped all their scenes, which was a lot.
I liked the other girlfriend and her boyfriend and was glad they fixed their issues. I really wish FL's ex (that was originally played by Zhang Haowei and had a face replacement) could have been the original actor. The face replacement didn't work, but the character was pretty awful anyway so I doubt I would have liked the character no matter who played it but the AI face swap didn't work.
ML really took advantage of FL in the beginning and FL was such a doormat through most of the drama. I really don't see this couple as being able to last. The ML's father was really good looking and I liked his character.
I liked both Tan Jianci and Wang Churan as actors, but I didn't think they worked together in this drama. I was looking forward to a lot of comedy, but it didn't deliver for me. There was so much about business that I didn't really understand and didn't care about that much so it failed in that aspect for me.
As much as I like Tan Jianci I'm not sure he really works in comedy. If you've seen him in any of his more serious dramas (Lost You Forever, Under the Skin) he seems really suited for a more serious, even sinister character. Have you watched Filter? There was one shot of TJC where I thought he'd make a great villain! Ep 28 at 35:43. He looks like a psychopath!
I've only seen Wang Churan in Are You the One? and How Dare You? and thought she was great in both of those.
I wouldn't judge the actor by this drama. He's, and whatever they did with the voice, replacing another actor…
He does seem that way, but I think part of that is his character. He comes off as someone very unsure of himself and relying on others to help him through life. And I think Kokuto makes a very good point about how the voice was replaced so it's really hard to tell how much is the digital replacement and how much is the actor who replaced Zhang Haowei.
"The next evening, just before leaving work, Qian Fei received a call from Li Yifei. He told her over the phone,…
Thanks for posting all that. It is so different from how that scene played out in the drama. It presents Qian Fei's as a completely different person.
I have to laugh at the description of Li Yifei's long legs and striding across the street with long steps. They obviously didn't pick TJC to match the novel Li Yifei!
I don't think his height makes any difference in the show. I think it was cute that he and Wang Churan are almost the same height and I loved it when he would lay his head on her shoulder. We don't often get to see that in Chinese dramas and I think it was very sweet.
I think they'll do great! They complement each other and had a year or so of co-habitation, so it isn't like they…
No I haven't read those chapters. I haven't read the book, either. I'm just going by how the drama presents them. To me they don't communicate well. He didn't even tell her who his fathe was! Her role seems to be to keep him in line, so she often seems more like his mother or at least an older sister. He seems to like her primarily for her cooking and as his disciple. I don't see any chemistry between them at all.
I know from reading comments here and while watching the drama that many people really shipped them as a romantic couple so I was curious as to how people think they would do in a commited marriage.
it was quite boring tbh, i only stayed for the actors and funny/cute interactions between them, but thats all...i…
As someone who doesn't like long dramas I was kind of glad for the Jun Cheng/Dang Yu storyline because I could skip massive amounts of this drama. The amount of time spent on that couple/parents was truly mind boggling, though.
And I agree with you about the main leads. I could not see them as a romantic couple at all. They felt more like brother/sister to me. I like both of them separately, but they just didn't have any chemistry to me.
1. episode 33 or something 2. no 3. no 4. yes 5. it’s more like a bromance between the leads for most of it…
Lol at bromance between the leads! I was thinking more like brother and sister, but yours is funnier. I don't give this couple much of a chance at lasting happiness in marriage.
How is your body not stressed when you're exercising diligently but only eating one small meal a day? If you did that to your pet you'd be called an animal abuser. Why do we even have makeup/wardrobe if they can't make an actor appear gaunt without jeopardizing their body?
Guan Xiaotong is known as the "Nation's Daughter" (one of her monikers) and recognised as a Four Dan Actress.…
Thanks for the information about the Four Dan Actresses. That is very interesting.
I know what you mean about that person leaving insulting comments. I have no interest in engaging with him and I always hope that others will ignore him, too. I've reported his comments (I know others have, too) but it doesn't seem that anyone actually reads or does anything about those reports.
When I want to counter something he says I leave a separate comment. I know those who are aware will figure it out, as you did. :)
I met you a few days ago in the discussion of the face swap in Love Has Fireworks. I checked out your reviews and was really happy to find this one. I was first introduced to Oh No! Here Comes Trouble through YouTube Shorts. I thought it was so funny and intriguing. When I got an Iqiyi subscription and watched it I was blown away. It was the weirdest, quirkiest drama I'd ever seen.
The first time I watched it I loved it, but I'm sure I didn't get that much out of it because I didn't understand all the background and layers and it was pretty confusing to me. After watching Avenue X discuss it and reading more reviews and articles I watched it again when I got another Iqiyi subscription and this time I loved it even more.
Your review has given me more understanding and will help me get more out of it when I inevitably watch it again. There's just something about this drama that is so magnetic! The actors are so amazing in it that it feels like their real life instead of a drama.
This drama inspired me to watch more Taiwanese dramas which I find so very different from mainland Chinese dramas. Thank you for the time you spent writing this review. I appreciate it.
I have to laugh at the commenter who says Guan Xiao Tong looks like a toddler (she doesn't). Looking at her acting history she seems to have been barely past toddler years when she started acting. Her earliest role was in 2003 and she's been active every year in dramas, movies and TV ever since. Quite a hard worker.
It's great to see an agency updating on progress in these types of cases. I know basically nothing about this actor, but I believe every actor/actress (every human being, really) should be protected from malicious acts and I'm glad this agency is doing what any good agency should be doing for their clients.
Some comments say this was a weird choice so I looked it up and the reason Li Xian was chosen is that he is a global brand ambassador of Adidas which is a sponsor of World Cup and he's apparently a well-known soccer fan. File this under things I learned today.
