Interesting concepts but not quite well executed.
At first, I was really enjoying the story. I was not quite sure where it was going or even where I wanted it to go, but it was interesting. It had a great side story condemning animal abuse and neglect, and emphasizing how pets can be our saviors. It also had some powerful themes of redemption and love that made this story very enjoyable. Then it took a weird turn. I was getting concerned that I was going to hate this series, but then the story started to make sense, and the turn was ok. There was a lot of potential for an amazing conclusion with this turn, and it was clear to me what kind of ending I wanted. Somehow, the writer and/or director missed the mark, and the ending was very underwhelming. This series had an amazing cast, and it was great seeing Son Su Ku in this fun and cute character, but I just wished the story had been more at his acting level. Hopefully, he does not end up regretting taking on this character.

A true soap/telenovela
Having grown up watching, and kinda hating, telenovelas, I usually avoid any drama that sounds like a traditional telenovela, but I decided to give Mine a try. It followed the tried-and-true formula for 1980s/1990s rich family telenovelas. It had everything one would expect:- Illegitimate children
- Secret room
- Illicit affairs
- Depraved hobbies
- Fake pregnancies
- Fake deaths
- Spying housekeepers
- Big shoulder pads
- Cross-class romance
- Horseback riding
- Sibling rivalry/back stabbing
- Catfights
- Amnesia
- Murder
- Evil stepmother
- Alcohol dependence
- Fabulous shoes and purses
- And of course, a nun
The only thing missing was the evil twin brother/sister and the split personality disorder.
The acting was fantastic, and the story was engaging, but I could not get past the telenovela vibe.

Just because of of Lee Min Ki
I watched this drama just because Lee Min Ki was in it and I just love him. I suspected that he was not going to be in it for very long as he was not in the main cast posters but I was not expecting his appearance to be so short and his departure to be so...surprising (to put it mildly). His short appearance was marvelous and it was fun to see him in such a different character from what we see him in now. It was also surprising and a pleasure to see Jo Bo Ah and Kim Min Seok, who are also favorite actors, in leading roles. This was Jo Bo Ah's first series and it shows--her acting has greatly improved since. This was also Kim Min Seok's first series and he was as cute as always. This is is not the best story nor it has any amazing acting, but it was entertaining and it was fun to see some of these actors early in their careers. Oh, and watch for a very young Woo Do Hwan as gang member--don't blink or you'll miss him!Was this review helpful to you?

Absolutely Brilliant!
Doctor John is another fantastic series with Ji Sung (The man can do no wrong!) that will go on my top series list. I enjoyed every single episode. The acting was absolutely phenomenal, and the story kept me wanting more. I cried a little and I smiled a lot. This series and the song Look At by SALTANDPAPER (which I have already added to my playlist) will stay with me for a while. If you like Ji Sung and/or medical dramas with a little romance, this series is phenomenal. Hospital Playlist is still the number one medical drama but Doctor John is a very close second. The series has 32 episodes, but they are each about 30 minutes long, so it is like watching a 16 episode series; however, I found myself wanting more.

Can't compare and it shouldn't compare to Hospital Playlist
This series started slow for me and I was expecting so much more. I kept wanting it to be like Hospital Playlist but it was not. Once I stopped wanting it to be Hospital Playlist and started appreciating it for what it was, I started to enjoy it, I saw the personalities and complexities of each of the characters, and better understood the purpose of the narrative. It was a well made series with a fantastic cast, and, yes, endearing cameos for Hospital Playlist fans. The creators and writes of this series have collaborated on other amazing series (Hospital Playlist, Reply 1988, and Prison Playbook) and I hope they keep collaborating together and bring us more quality series. Was this review helpful to you?
