There is quite a number of Kactors/singers who can really speak Japanese. Do believe the director would have casted those who can converse in Jap.

glad to find someone having the same vibes from ML's acting. For me, i found his anger and commanding attitude towards his 3rd uncle at the ward somewhat exaggerated. Don't understand why his eyes had to be so wide open as though he's ready to eat up his uncle with his anger!
