I notice there are some similarities with Harry Potter, as main boy being the chosen one, young mage stories,…
look to chinese web novels of overpowered male characters who start off weak as the inspiration for aos.

i am super annoyed that i gave so many hours to this. i can't believe that I got to the end and was like so all this misery was caused by an irresponsible spouse who did not communicate with her partner and ran off in the middle of the night. what a poor excuse for a plot.

This drama does not deserve it's rating. It's awfully directed and feels gimmicky especially on the part of the lead role.

it's been a while since i've come across a character that irritates me to no end -- i kept having the image of flushing the mc down the toilet that's how much he made my blood boil. he is so selfish and self-centered, knows that he is, and still behaves the same way that the whole time i thought that he wasn't mature enough to be in any relationship at all. i really hoped for some character arc but nope, he was trash to the end. the ml was a total doormat, especially for the mc. sorry to you all who are tooting this drama, but these were both needed to grow up for university students.

Watched up to ep 5 and I think the parents are the worst. Chaya’s and Wat’s mothers as well as Nus’ father…
Let's not forget Nus' mother. Perhaps the worst of them all as she is a silent observer of her daughter abuse even as she sides with the oppressor in the family.

As I watched this (ep 8), I kept telling the characters to use their words. This is what I tell 3-6-year-olds in the classroom and on the playground. Wow, I totally agree with most of the reviewers. This one was troubesome.

Wow. I came here to write how awful this show was. Then I saw that so many thought the start was great but didn't like it later. Hmm... I skipped through the first episode because I could tell what was happening just by doing that and knew then that it wasn't good storytelling. I then got to the second episode and saw the female lead (her acting especially is ick), her family, and seemingly everyone else's acceptance that power and money give licence to the rich to do what they want. It just made me want to barf. End of story.

This is a good show and I am epidsode 11 of 24. Yet, for a show that is supposed to be women-centric, I resent that the production shows the men a few bad apples but overall doesn't address the issue of gender inequality. like all the women are resigned to hopelessness. the idea that women have it hard but bad people should not deter from good people was off-putting. These are two different issues. Women have it hard is not addressed and one woman speaking to another was essentially silently encouraging resignation and acceptance toward this as a fact of reality; as something that should not and cannot be changed. Still, it is wise counsel though to not let bad experience turn us off from the good and we can strive for that.

shouldn't modern sensibilities towards injustice allow these reactions while understanding the that it's historical…
I just meant I'm tired of seeing any shows that show "women's strength/capacity" just focusing on the upper class or gaining access to the upper class. I find this problematic in a lot of ways and no matter how benevolent they still held power over other women compared to the scores of other disadvantaged women living in that society. How does having power over others equate to freedom from oppression?

Asked myself the same thing. They just walked off with the girl without giving her a chance to say bye to her…
Thanks LC.

Can someone explain how the mother could go and adopt one of the twins without either of the sisters knowing ahead of time? This seems too far fetched to me. It's episode 6 and they haven't addressed it.

They're not listed on this website but on Baidu (= Chinese Wikipedia) I can see some African names.
Doesn't mean it's a good thing right?

What kind of idiot tells all their plans to their enemy? Seon Hwa needs to stop telling what she’s going to…
This show is built on this. Most of these daily revenges do this but I've never seen one do it soooo much. Jae Kyung gets her information from pure coincidence or from the Seon Hwa telling her everything.

Hey, I don't mean to sound rude, but it's not you who decides if the historical aspect of the show is handled…
That's a good point. It's for them to decide that. From my perspective I don't see a distortion of history or it being handled poorly comparing the information I have had access to. It doesn't mean that I'm not listening. Still, at this point, I think it's okay to engage with the story.

For what it's worth, here are my two cents. I started watching this show without knowing there was an issue and then came across the comments here. I just read the a couple of articles as well as the twitter posts from that link provided below and, so far, I don't see any indication from the show that it is handling the historical situation poorly ... we have no idea what direction the show is going to take. I recently watched Youth of May and ended up doing some research on the incident, and being someone who is pretty sensitive to social injustice, I still think it okay to engage with this work.

It's actually embarrassing what international fans are doing..I want to think that they are kids and they don't…
it would go a long way if, instead of condemning people for not having morals, you take the time to foster understanding, so people might weigh the issue better.
