I´ve watched until ep 6 with subtitles, I`m enjoying the drama very much because I like this theme of historical…
Mo Ruo Fei better be the second lead girl otherwise I'm XP
I'm very sure she is. Can't wait for more episodes to come out and find out, I don't know why they didn't spoil anything about her in the opening preview and ending song. It looks to me like Ariel Lin will learn to fight, she was wearing Lian Yi Ke's clothes in the ending song.

Yes I agree with you the song is childish but I've heard worse ones. Have you heard the one from Meng Fei Comes…
It's really a lot just like other web dramas to me, for example Eternal Love or Cinderalla Chef...the difference is the actress is Ariel. But, not many actresses can act like Ariel. Many things in the storyline do not make sense at all, but it is enjoyable because of the acting.
I agree it looks cheap, the cheap stuff to me though is only the slow-mo fightings stuff. Oriental Odyssey does better with the action scenes but the story and pace is much slower than this drama.
I love the colors, it is not dull. But it is not too bright too. The stylist is an expert in color.

Similar to what someone already said: this drama is simply not for you. You might find it boring but we LOVE it!…
I plan to finish this drama. But I know that I will have to skip a lot.
Why I can get really irritated about skipping a lot, it means watching it alone on a computer instead of enjoyin it with buddies on a big tv.

Wrong Carriage Right Groom is an old drama that focus on family issues too, if anybody likes the genre. It starred Nie Yuan (emperor from Yanxi Palace).
If anybody wishes to time travel, then watch it bc it will transport you there, the setting and stylings are creepily realistic. It will blew you away immediately. It can be cheesy corny at times because everybody acted really really ancient, but the acting is superb!!!

There were even some news that Zhao Liying would star in a remake of that drama, but the news died down for a while now... so...I guess it was probably just rumors. Don't know if that's ever going to happen, but if it is then the director better be a good one too, ruining classics is a very big crime (to me).
Don't know why they only have 2 parts subbed, they used to have the entire thing subbed in YT

It's such an absurd drama that it got shut down after a few weeks of airing by the government, under the reason that the drama is too "absurd".

Yes. I was way way more than sure that everyone skipped everything like I did,
and turns out I'm wrong...which makes me extremely surprised......something like this can sell seriously?

Now I figure out, to me I actually took this drama as something "factually" boring, not "opinionatedly" boring. That's why I was so sure nobody would like it, I guess nothing is impossible these days. It sells then it sells! I'm wrong.

WOW that is so amazing you guys watch every details of it.......I was able to watch serious dramas like Romance of the Three Kingdoms where there wasn't even any romance and only tons of old men conversations everywhere, I couldn't even keep track of all the characters. But maybe the historical aspect of it kept me interested.

But Minglan is just different, there was no importance in granny talking to Minglan. Ok their relationship is very trusting enough...after long conversations together I am not "more" convinced they love each other okay..same thing about the old men talking to old men, old men talking to old ladies, old ladies gossiping, etc. Those things just need to happen once and I undersatnd the idea, what's up with the rinse and repeat? Those scenes need to go.
After they did those conversations, nothing important ever follow up after it. Some people love sports and some would fall asleep over it, but the boring scenes in this drama is not even comparable to sports...in sports the watchers get to see how a team wins. In Minglan, after the ladies gossip, nothing happens...
If I skipped them and cannot understand what happened later, then yes I would agree they are important scenes. But I skipped them and was really glad I didn't waste time on them, since I still understand everything... so of course those are basically easy fillers to create lots of episodes.
Yeah..maybe real life is so boring, they are making it boring to make it look like real life? I'm sorry I don't want to watch anything that is even more boring than my life LOL, even my life is more interesting why would I watch your thing? --just wanna say to the director

I'm so sorry there was no character development anywhere too, maybe only for GTY. And when the kid Minglan transition to adult was her only development so far. GTY and Minglan are similar in that they don't really show their true selves to others, so when they finally opened up about their life to each other, it was not because they have grown up more or developed or anything... it was because of the usual tropes (GTY saving Minglan everytime) came up, that's why they had the chance to be together and finally had a...... interesting conversation at last...

I don't care that if their "action" scenes are going to be very tropey or whatever, they just need more actions. Sooner or later the only good scenes we get are going to be those "tropey" things only anyway, why make the viewers wait and wait and wait and then oh, at last...surprise! Our action scenes are also usual tropes too.
So...... then why not just make them happen sooner? And make sure you create enough tropes to keep the pace moving then geez.

I am curious how you people watch this show?

To me, my pattern is this, if a drama cannot make me curious enough to watch next week episode coming out, then I will wait until they upload lots of episodes and I will watch them all at once. Because I can then skim around 10 episodes and find 1 or 2 things that are worth watching and say a "yes" to the drama. If I watch it week by week and say "no" and nuh uh to it every single week...that makes no sense at all, why should anyone continue to watch something they find crappy every single week? So I wait till it piles up.

If the drama is really interesting then I won't be able to hold off, I have to watch as soon as another episode comes out. It's always torturing and not fun waiting, but it's exciting and couldn't be helped. I find those type of dramas higher in quality because the writers know how to make things intricate and interesting.

Legend of Ming Lan is the type I have to wait till it piles up so I only watch it here and there when there are enough episodes to watch. After lots of skimming now, I got to say there are a few parts are pretty nice. But there is no way in hell am I going to sit down and watch through every single scene of Ming Lan, I hope there aren't really people watching this show like that...????? I don't know what to say if there are... I know it can be different people having their own opinions.... but seriously I would be in total awe of disbelievement that there are actually people out there willing to watch a godzillion boring conversations for hours! Making dramas can be that easy! Just create lots of people talking about things that lead to nowhere the entire time and create something over 70 episodes for that.

For this drama, if it can get condensed into 20-30 episodes total I will consider this quite a good drama with a rating like 9 or even 10, but the director wants to throw in 90% of boring stuff and if I want to watch his "worthy" good scenes then I have to skim everything to find only a 10% interesting stuff... hell nah I don't find that good quality. Sorry. It's like they're just lazy to think through about how to make things more engaging. They know they can do it but they don't care about the viewers, only the number of episodes to get money. And are they still selling a story or just the casts? The drama needs more action. Even if it has to be about usual annoying women plotting to kill each other off, that will still be more valuable if the pacing like that is at least reasonable.

I’m not a fan of Mo Rou. They can’t find another guy for that role?
I would definitely vote her for a Dong Fang Bu Bai!
They finally got a woman who would look convincingly like a man when she cross dress.
Her acting as a man is so good that you guys don't realize she's playing a girl cross dressing, how can it be bad lol when she got you tricked? She pretend to play like a man way too convincing.

I'm very sure her character is a woman who cross dress, because Ariel said she use perfumes and smell like a lady, and she also give Ariel make ups and even teach Ariel about them. I actually find her pretty, she also reminds me a bit of Ning Jing and Yuki Hsu.

Maybe I shouldn´t have expected a lot or should have expected a fluffy drama...but I I was totally bored the…
Ming Lan is serious? I guess... serious than too serious because first 10 episodes I skipped every single thing. I still try to keep up when I can but it's always skipping and skipping and skipping. It's just way too serious. I cannot stand watching anything too serious like that. Although Nothing Gold Can Stay is a very serious drama, but I was able to watch everything and love everything about it...I don't know man I have lots and lots of issues with the way they directed Ming Lan or something.

For Hua Bu Qi the beginning was boring but I'm glad the pacing was no issue, later half of episode 1 onward was watchable. They made everything easy to watch and angsty to know what's next. The story is tropier than tropey, especially that Vin is just another prince while Ariel is just another clumsy 7th fairy. But it's not like Ming Lan have any new storyline either, when in fact it is trying way too hard to copy The Dream Of The Red Chamber.
Also, as many of us have guessed earlier, it is actually really similar to Wei Young and Palace themed dramas where annoying women create jealousy plots. I was glad there was no annoying women in Hua Bu Qi.

Is it possible that this drama can jump from a rating of 8.2 into 8.4 over night?
I think at some point this show did got to a 8.3 that only lasted for 1 day, then it came back down to 8.2 after some clean up. And the clean up was because there were rumors about lots of very popular shows being dragged down.
But it seems like this show is not being drag down, it's being drag up. I'm just asking because I heard ZLY fans like to over rate her dramas, starting to wonder if that's true.

Dropped at episode 2*. The writer just lost any semblance of sense and realism. I know some people like the FL's…
This is not the first time YZ wrote his female leads ruling the palace when they are only maids. It have improved a whole lot in this drama, his previous dramas are way worse because the girls are so dumb and they don't even have protective owners. In here, the main girl is proven smart enough to save her own self. And what's more is she always go find herself owners who are protective. So she can do whatever she wants, because she has the brain and the guts to do so. If she's stupid then I would complain, but she's not, she's someone with great ideas. Her schemes are always very unpredictable, that's what makes it fun, refreshing, new, smart and interesting. Lots of credits go to the script writer for this.

There have been many people who find her ugly and unhappy of her fame over night and they tried to find everything they can to criticize her. But there is nothing wrong about her character. She was written to be so extremely ambitious, so it made sense how she worked her way up. Better than the other dramas where some ridiculously weak girls became queens just because of a few sentences they boast about themselves being ambitious, but you never see them ever being ambitious in action, when a problem came up they never have the brain and courage to solve anything but just drag the story longer than it should be. Ying Luo has determination and courage and etc. Basically everything. She gets things done, when it should be done at the right time. So much that she wasn't lacking anything at all. So it is highly convincing why she gets to be so unruly, because "she can".

If the truth is really as unrealistic as you say, then nobody would like this drama at all because everyone has eyes. Lots and lots of people love this drama, so there is no problem about realisticness at all. If you are looking for a realistic drama, there is none. Most dramas are way worse than this. And I would suggest you go try documentaries instead.

"What hidden abilities? That was only magical abilities!"

-- Magical abilities meaning the character was granted with skills and talents from the author without causes. They did not earn their abilities through working their way up, but magically got them uninterestingly since they are obviously the main character.
