Who cares? Hollywood has its own people getting bitten by spider, turn into massive green giant, fly to the sun and back, cars transform into robots. To each their own. Hence the name wuxia. If you can't accept that, you don't need to watch.

To be honest, this should be titled Side Story of Fox Volant or Flying Fox Tales, instead of Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain. FFoSM has different storyline, and the most obvious one is the setting, in the snowy mountain, hence the title.

Don't watch this you'll be confused. This is a film, and the entire story is just from a few latest chapters from the book. Watch the 2017 drama first.

I just can't bear the 5 second fight - slomo - 5 sec fight - another slomo thingy. Ridiculous.

This one is the first story. So you don't need to watch other dramas.

It's the best adaptation to be honest. I only regret one thing, the lamest cgi i ever saw. Totally unacceptable.

In case you think it may help, then watch Legend of the Condor Heroes 2017 first. That one is the first story and continue with this one as second.
This serial and Return of the Condor Heroes are the same. You can watch whichever one you like but i prefer the more modern version, that is, this one. It's more pleasing to my eyes, the costumes, the fight choreography

Now about "dig her eyes out". Azhi has a guy who fell in love with her deeply, YTZ (look for the cast for the abbreviation). Azhi was a cunning & sadistic girl, unlike her older sis. She toyed with YTZ, tortured him, putting a iron mask on him. At one point, she lost her eyesights, & YTZ sacrificed his own eyes for her. That's the story.

This is a year's post but i will try to explain it based from the novel (the original work). There are 3 main leads, QF, DY, & XZ. what you mean in the question is QF, the ex-beggar chief. He saved Azhu & both fell in love. QF went to revenge his parents' murder, not knowing that Azhu was his enemy's daughter. Azhu tried to save his father by impersonating him with her skill. QF got deceived & landed a fatal blow, killing her. Azhu's last words was for QF to take care her younger sis, Azhi. Azhi was a cunning girl & she liked QF. At the end of the novel, she jumped off cliff because of one-sided love. QF followed suit, because he felt pressure of which country he should serve from the upcoming war, & his failure to fulfill Azhu's wish.
