I think u misunderstood something but seo hae wasn't on the plane it was his hallucinations and he dropped the…
Yeah and if we go with this Sad ending theory (tbh we can interpret it different ways since its an open ending)
We can also say that the Sigma we see in the end, holding the diary is the present Sigma. The present where the war is stopped and Tae-Sul is dead. He wrote his notes in the diary from when he interacted with the others. He was trying to make sense of the situation, why did they try to shoot him and then why that police officer showed him kindness. And why did HTS kill himself in a random church. Then we see him dressing up as Han Tae-Sul. So , I am assuming his obsession turned paths. Now he wants to know the truth and wants to 'be' Han Tae-sul. But it won't really matter because there is no uploader so he can't do anything else more than being obsessed. I think that was just to show his character end, that even after that his obsessive habits did not change.
Lol. My mind is now numb after trying to comprehend the ending for the past six hours.
Ok here is my theory:

From this i will just make a long shot that, now this new Sigma actually succeeds in making the uploader himself. But he isn't evil now, he is good. And he knows everything that happened from the "previous reality" So as a thank you for saving him, he sends Seo-Hae back from future to find Tae-Sul (and invests in him too i guess?)
For the time machine discussion it was simply Tae Sul wishing he could go back to save/see his parents, some part…

Ok here is my theory: since it's an open ending, we can interpret as what we want. It's a really well written open ending if you ask me. time-travel stories are really really hard to write and the writes did an amazing job.

Sad ending: HTS on the plane is hallucinating Seo-Hae and refusing to take pills just to keep seeing her. The Sigma shown in present with his diary is still stuck with his obsessive habits but this time they'll be futile because there is no uploader so he can't do anything else more than being obsessed. I think that was just to show his character end, that even after that his obsessive habits did not change.
Also, if everything after 2020 war (which didn't happen) changes, then it also should change the past. :o there…
You have a point here but i was also wondering, if the Seo Hae on the plane was real (him not taking the pill indicates that he is realizing that she is in fact real). Maybe she came back from the future and invested in Han Tae-Sul like Sigma did?
hello here to be bitterly honest amongst all these emotional comments
even tho i love Jo Seung Woo and Son Ye Jin...this movie isn't good, it's extremely cliche. Of course i never expect anything more from a movie of that time but its the comments and reviews like these [points around] that put this movie on such a high pedestal... the writing isn't as good either it jumps to the next part of the story even before the viewer has the chance to take in what just happened its cute and badly directed, the idea was nice tho...i appreciate that. Maybe if it was remade with refined script writing...it could become what everyone in the comments keep talking about The only scene that i really liked was the folk dance scene I was entertained throughout but I wasn't moved in any sort of way
breath stopping, that's all i have to say about this movie
I watched it for Jo Seung Woo and Soo Ae and this movie being so old I really wasn't expecting anything but....i mean of course there were mild issues with the direction, story writing and those abrupt cuts but like c'mon it was made in 2009
the emotional impact of this movie is so beautiful, very warm and emotional, a melancholic comfort. It almost had me crying in the end There's one thing about old movies/dramas i really like. They use natural sounds and lights, even the makeup is so bare, no one is trying to be beautiful. It makes the story feel real. I wish film these days would bring that element back. Anyways, the ending was really moving....And both Soo Ae and Jo Seung Woo are amazing amazing actors, i really felt their characters. No one could've played the characters better than this. No one. Even if the story was remade today under a better director, i still would want Soo Ae and Jo Seung Woo to be the lead again.
no matter how old the film and however the quality, if it has the power to move you...then its a good film.
Thank you so much for typing all this out, this is exactly. literally. every word i wanted to say "they gave their most well-developed character a cheap ending." i couldn't have said it better. Lee Rang was such a well written character. We don't even get to see such precious characters often and I'm so bitter they did that to him.
I'm kinda opposite, I think she fits that role perfectly tho... I can't picture myself watching other actresses…
that's how Eun Dan Oh's character was written, directors asked her to act that way if it was any other actress they would've asked the same thing from her. You should be glad how Hye Yoon pulled off the role without making it cringy -_-
oh my god whoever you are, writer-nim, you know how exactly it is. With this piece of cinema we share a experience that any other generation won't be able to. :-: Thank you for the article (loved the playlist inclusion, it made me more emotional)
