Yes, they did broke up in the novel... I cant remember the exact details, Pete finished his university years abroad with his father... Pete returned a year 1 or 2 that Ae was already working. their issues was kinda resolved on its own, (Pete's father is against Pete being gay) his father is sick or something.

I dont consider the ending as a happy ending, I say, they will just get back together again and then break up again... Teh is still stuck in his restlessness phase, of having everything that he thought he wants but still not being happy... He have yet to realize that life is just like that... I dont know if it's intentional and they plan to have a season 3...but Teh seems to be holding on to his breath all the time, as if everything around him are harder and he seem so lost... The ending feels like a prelude to a bigger conflict...

International fans are the one not giving enough attention to these type of genres. Irarely trust the top 10/20 best kdrama list online... But if you check the the top 10/20 with the highest rating in korea yearly, the genre is quite varied... Oftentimes, I see international fans saying such and such drama is underrated, my reaction would mostly be... uh, it had a high rating in korea, take for example Signal, most international fans thinks it super underrated but they dont even know that it top 2 in cable ratings that year and pushed lee je hoon to stardom.

Im only about to start this drama but law school is a graduate study and not everyone go straight to law school after their undergraduate degree, plus you need to take the LSAT which is only taken at a specific period each year and not everyone pass it on their first take.
