The ending was super rushed and likely hard to follow for those unfamiliar with the storyline, but otherwise, I really enjoyed it. I think people are naturally inclined to compare adaptations or place extra scrutiny on Jin Yong adaptations because his written works are such masterpieces. So I see where the hate is coming from. However, as a casual watcher, this drama is much better than a lot of the other costume/wuxia dramas out there. I just wish we had 5 more episodes to beef up the ending!

I'm here checking on the release dates and times of the remaining episodes. The RAW episodes are all out, but…
Do you know where all the raw episodes are? Thank you in advance!

Where can I watch the 2003 version in good quality? I have a link on YT, but the video quality isn't really satisfying.…
Do you understand Mandarin or would you need subs? I'm a Chinese native so I've been watching raw, and could DM you a link. If you need subs though, I won't be able to help but recommend checking out the 2003 page in case it's helpful (https://kisskh.at/969-demi-gods-semi-devils). Also a fan of director Kuk Kok Leung here. On a side note, all of the Jin Yong adaptations by producer Zhang Jizhong are excellent, including the 2003 Demi Gods & Semi Devils.

I’m finding it pretty enjoyable. I’m a big Jin Yong fan and have read the novel and watched the 1997, 2003, and 2013 versions — so maybe I know the story too well to notice the cuts. That said, I don’t find this adaptation lacking or low budget. It’s as good (or bad) as any recent adaptation? For those who want to watch the “original”, the original is from 1982 and you probably won’t enjoy the video quality. Instead, give the 2003 adaption a try — that’s probably the most “classic” more recent adaptation.

I love Xu Kai and think he did a fine job as Bai Jue / Qing Mu / Bo Xuan. But Tian Qi and Gu Jun just oozed so much swag. Especially Gu Jun in the second life... G.O.A.T.

And is tian qi still alive? I see that some people survived (wu huan, gu jun, etc.). Are they gods too or just immortals? How come wu huan became some queen of sorts?

Ah ok, that makes more sense. I thought they did a good job with Bai Lu in Arsenal Military Academy, she could pass as a cute boy, but I guess that’s why they deleted some of the cute kiss scenes.

Not sure I’ve seen the hater comments (maybe they’ve already been deleted), but the producers did not do a good job making JJY convincingly pass as a guy. I really like her and think she’s super pretty, but the fact that the producers had her wear lip stain, eyeliner, eyeshadow, etc. — is so extra. I get her character is supposed to be a pretty boy, but she could already be that without the obnoxiously obvious makeup. This isn’t a knock at the actress, just a thought for the production team.

Jin Yong's work is better, his knowledge of the world of martial arts is wider, the story is not monotonous so…
Huge Jin Yong fan. What have you already watched so far? If you enjoyed LOCH and ROCH, you’ll like The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber which is a part of the Condor Trilogy along with LOCH and ROCH. It skips a generation and has new characters, but will reference the old characters as well as same martial arts scripts. Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils is great too. It also references the same martial arts scripts as the Condo Trilogy and has a complex story with three major character arcs. My personal favorites also include The Deer and the Cauldron (not really Wuxia but hilarious and clever) and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. For The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, you might wanna do some research before deciding if and which adaptation to watch because the newer ones are (not bad but) wildly off script.

Maybe there was weak character development for the first generation actors but WTF? All this BS because a dude rejected you? And sooo many episodes spent on the same dumbass bad dude (or shall I say “dudes” for the nasty father sun duo)? Oh boy...
On Handsome Siblings Jul 24, 2020
The acting for the ML (Xiao Yu Er) was phenomenal — such a fun and strong character. This was a good lighthearted drama, and the bromance was awesome, but at the end of the day, the plot was pretty bland. I gotta say, after watching so many Wuxia dramas, Jin Yong’s work is GOAT and far superior to Gu Long’s work.
On And the Winner Is Love Jul 24, 2020
I’m actually quite enjoying this — granted I’m playing a lot of the episodes at 1.5x speed. The story isn’t complex and the characters are predictable, but I find that’s the case with most Wuxia dramas unless it’s Jin Yong’s work. It’s as good (and as bland lol) as Handsome Siblings, which is another show with pretty visuals and mostly carried by the ML’s acting. Maybe my expectations were significantly lowered by the negative reviews, but it’s a solid 8 from me.
