Never commented here before. I'm actually not a very avid drama fan, as this is my very first romantic drama (and probably the last one too) and the second one overall, but I have to say I loved every minute of every episode of Kim Bok Joo. I don't think I'm gonna watch many more dramas, as I only watched this because someone very dear to me recommended it and started it with me, but I have to admit that this drama is really really funny and really warm. I liked it so much I just felt the need to say something.
I can stress how different the circumstances are between the day I sarted watching this, and today, when I finally completed it. The beggining was the cherry on top of a beautiful weekend, and the end helped mitigate the pain of a really bad one. It's been two weeks of an amazing ride, that much I can assure you. I can now say that I agree with what you wrote a 100%. I enjoyed every episode, every twist, every funny bit and every dramatic one too. It is, as you said, an overall warming experience, as much as the weekend I started watching it was, and that's what I'm definetely taking away from this. I still believe that I'm not gonna become a drama fan or anything of the sort, but I can truly say I'm a fan of Kim Bok Joo :). Thank you very much for continuosly encouraging me to try new and amazing things. Alessa is SWAG. Dangshinun-aluum-dabb-sumnida :)
Having now arrived at the exact middle point of the series, I decided to give your review another reading. I can attest to every word in this review so far. It is incredibly warm and effective, and just as you say, I find myself not being able to stop smiling for as long as each episode lasts, and even several minutes after they end. Granted, the conditions in which I started watching it were very smile-inducing themselves, but still.
I'm still not fond of romantic dramas, as I very much prefer (and have been lucky enough to find) romance outside the screen, but this is just so much fun to watch, and it does feel like a warm caress to the soul. You're "ray of sunshine" metaphor gets cuter everytime I read it :).
I'll report back when I'm finished with it, but so far I can't do more than thank you deeply for introducing me to the loving adventures of the weightlifting fairy, Kim Bok Joo :). Yet another big hug!
Never been a fan of JRPGs, but rather of the western ones, as you well know, but this was absolutely amazing.…
Although, for some reason now I think I see the full version, as opposed to this morning! Great review,by the way. As always =). http://puu.sh/txxoa/4767a94799.png
Never been a fan of JRPGs, but rather of the western ones, as you well know, but this was absolutely amazing. It works as a bizarre/cheap comedy by itself, but if you understand at least some of the references, it can become the hilarious parody it's meant to be. I enjoyed every minute of it, from the special effects, to the writing, to the performances and characters, each representing an archetype present in every RPG. Brilliantly stupid humor :). Thank you very much for the recommendation, once more =).
I'll be sure to show your "straight guy" review to convince a friend of to watch this amazing drama…
Jajajaja it wasn't necessary, I planned to watch it anyway after talking to you so much about it, but I appreciate you showing me this. The review itself adds one more point to that idea, and it's nice to see another perspective. If I didn't need or have an excuse before, I certainly don't have it now :P . 100% would watch! Thank you, both =)
Loved your review, and I'm really looking forward to watching it, even more after reading this. As you know, I'm not extremely fond of romantic dramas, but the way you describe this makes me very interested in it, since it does appear to have a little bit of everything. Thank you! Paiting, and a big big hug!
is the movie better or the drama better? (i know the ratings are different but.... I want to know people's…
The movie is absoluteley amazing. One of the best to come out of Korea in the last two decades. It is also bleak and heavy themed, dealing with far less romanticised notions of justice and duty than the series. Having said that, the series is also great, for many different reasons, and spans far out the famous investigation depicted in the movie. They are related merely because at one point the series takes on that particular case (the Gyunggi serial killings). I would honestly recommend you watch both, as they are different yet both very enjoyable. The movie for tone and artistic sensibilites, the series for the compelling development of its plot, and both of them for their great ensemble casts.
