Where did you watch ep 26? Iqiyi has only posted 24 eps even for vip
Definitely 26 eps. Where did I watch it? Sorry, secret. Consider this a VVIP benefit. ;) No spoilers, just commenting that I foresee a Season 2 as it is impossible for them to cover the entire story in the novel in just 37 eps unless they plan to stop at a certain part in the novel.
26 eps and the story is nowhere near 3/4 of the novel....I wonder if they are planning a Season 2 because I doubt they can finish the entire story in just 37 eps.
After 12 episodes, I kinda got used to the over-acting of the FL. Just gotta get used that this is a Chinese anime-manga live-action.Except for a few changes and re-arranged scene sequences, so far the story follows quite closely to the anime version.
Sandrine Pinna is not the best actress around. I wonder why she was chosen. I didn't like her acting since her TDrama days such as Endless Love etc. She has the Eurasian looks and angled jaw which is perfect for modelling and spotting the cold arrogant look but unfortunately not for acting. I have a feeling that the person who will draw viewers to this drama is Xu Kai. His acting and charisma as the ML from the first 2 episodes was spot on!
The second brother - acted by Xu Kai Xin - is ironically, my favourite character in this drama. I like his chemistry with the female lead better. And if I didn't know better, he actually had a crush on her - but decided earlier on to just be her best friend because she's his sister-in-law. The girl he eventually ended up with is also very pretty and a good character; so in a way, he has a happy ending too. Now I know a new actor - Xu Kai Xin. Good acting and good looking. I hope I'll get to see him in a lead role soon!
Another theory: Dan Oh was the female lead in "Trumpet Creeper" but Haru was the second male lead doomed to love her but can't get her. Somehow, Dan Oh got self-aware and fell in love with Haru and they both tried to change the story in "Trumpet Creeper" with disastrous results; perhaps ending with Dan Oh dead and Haru having to make a bargain with Mr. Squid Fairy to revive Dan Oh into a new comic.
My theory: Dan Oh and Haru were leads in another comic titled "Trumpet Creeper" but something happened to cause the characters from that comic to be "re-cycled" into a new comic titled "Secret". Mr. Squid Fairy is a highly suspicious character as he seems to be the only person who knows about the different comics/ universe. My guess is Mr. Squid Fairy is somehow linked to the comic writer or linked to the real world. He could be the "fairy" who granted Haru's wish in a bid to save Dan Oh - and Haru paid for this bargain with his disappearance from the new comic, until Dan Oh's desperation to live in the new comic re-animated him. The cut on his palm could be the stamp for sealing his bargain with the "fairy" which explains why each time he tries to remember his past, his palm hurts. Another character to watch out for is Oh Nam Joo's mother. My guess is she's the real culprit - the evil - from the previous comic that also got re-cycled into the new comic as Nam Joo's mother. This would explain the Squid Fairy's shocked reaction when he saw her. Perhaps the previous comic had a bad ending with Dan Oh's death and "Secret" is Dan Oh and Haru's second chance. What I look forward to is the ending to this drama. How will a drama about imaginative characters end?
As a fellow 60s-er, I can answer your question about why do the older viewers rarely give a drama a 10 rating.....well, basically the way we rate dramas differ from the young ones. We are less influenced by idolism and place more emphasis on story and acting. After all, the main reason why we indulge in watching dramas is to fill-up our evenings with an activity, considering most of us are already retired or semi-retired. Hence, we care a lot about watching a good drama (as in good story and acting) and not some overly pretty young man or woman (most likely with lots of plastic surgery and makeup done) prancing around with poor acting skills and poorly written story and script. Clearly these are dramas created to capitalize on the young fandom market and not for serious viewers. We also appreciate dramas that teaches good life lessons or portray as closely as possible to historical events and figures. However, quality dramas with quality actors and actresses are far and few nowadays as the entertainment market focuses on the younger market; hence lots of resources are put into developing young idols and associated advertisements and products. This is one of the biggest reason why older viewers rarely give a drama a 10 rating.
Another reason is the bias in how this survey is conducted. MDL is populated by mainly a younger cohort of viewers. Hence, it would make sense that you'll get a higher percentage of younger viewers rating the dramas here. If you adjust the percentage based on population weighting - you'll probably see less divide on how viewers rate. Also, to capture the older viewers, you'll need to rely on a different way of conducting your survey - namely one that is less technology reliant; maybe printed out questionnaires and knocking on doors - which is simply not possible in your case. Many seniors I know (certainly even from my own friendship groups), do not know how to correctly use technology to complete surveys. We also have less screen time (besides watching dramas on tv) than the younger generation. Certainly, our heads are not constantly bowed to our phones and ipads etc. In fact, I only use my phone to receive calls and text messages and I only check them at the end of the day when I have time to reply to calls and messages. So, unfortunately, I am one of those people who had missed out on completing this online survey as I wasn't aware there was a survey being conducted. The fault lies on me being a less frequent user of technology and therefore, hadn't been to MDL for a while now.
Nevertheless, well done and a good effort. Some data is better than no data.
The story definitely smacks of the Hong sisters' signature and reminisce of Goblin; only the role reversed with the cursed immortal-like person being the lady and the 'saviour' being the guy. It has a relaxed pace and simple story. Despite the paranormal tag, it still comes across as light viewing to me. The saving grace, in my opinion, is the ending. I am sooooo glad they did not force a happy ending to this story. Instead, they opted for the poignant bittersweet ending; which is perfect for this story! And to end it with a brief intro of the hot new owner is just the right touch to finish off this story. It makes the audience want for more......now, we want to watch the story concerning this new owner!
My version of a synopsis for this drama from the main characters' perspectives:-
Xiao Qi: Just my rotten luck! I passed too closely to Earth and crash landed. What's worst - the first thing I encountered was a heavily injured male human. Since I am a nice person, I helped the poor human, but I didn't expect the car would explode and throw me far away from my crash site! To add to my series of bad luck, I lost my signal/location transmitter and I need it to find my way home! My personal assistant (artificial intelligence) ended up in the body of a tortoise and I had no choice but to masquerade around as a human while looking for my signal/location transmitter. But I must say, the male humans on this planet are quite fetching! I looooove their muscled and well-toned bodies....which reminded me, the guy I saved had a really nice body! Maybe he knows where's my transmitter. Yes, that's my clue! I was looking for that guy when I suddenly found myself in debt. To pay off my debt, I had to work as a food delivery person to the most kind human I'd met - Big Sister Chai! She even allowed me to use her surname! I also met the most prince-like man. Unfortunately, this prince-like man has an older brother who is overbearing and a womanizer. What really worries me is how my powers do not seem to work when that man touches me. Speaking of my powers - I may not be the most talented person on my planet - but I could still stop time (briefly), heal others, conjure illusions and use telekinesis. So why aren't they working when that annoying fella touches me???!! He even had the gal to ask me to be his girlfriend! I certainly do not want to end up as the butt of jokes if the people from my planet found out I became a male human's girlfriend! Oh, please! Can't I get my transmitter back already???? I want to go home!
Fang Leng: I am the heir of a multinational company. As the eldest son and the most capable candidate, I am set to inherit the company from my father. But my step-mother and her brother had other ideas. They are trying to sabotage my efforts so that my younger brother could inherit the company. I know what game they are playing, and I have my ways to deal with them. By the way, I have this one problem... I suffer from amnesia whenever it rains. Not just any amnesia - but a very specific one. Each time it rains, I couldn't remember the women I'd met before the rain; hence I ended up with multiple women claiming to be my ex-girlfriends and earned the reputation as a womanizer. How troublesome! No matter - I have ways to silence them! As to my problem with my amnesia - I founded a secret research section in my company where all of my daily actions are recorded and stored in a memory bank. This way, I can always rewind back and see what happened before the rain. My amnesia started after my mothers' death. I suffer from brief and painful flashbacks of how she died in front of me -on the road - in a rainy night, but I couldn't remember more. My step-mother often tortured me by saying I caused my mother's death. Is it true??!! Argh! I couldn't remember! Also, I knew someone saved me when I met with a car accident, but I couldn't remember who it was. My saviour left behind a peculiar little blue stone. Not knowing what it was, I gave it to the research section to investigate. Meanwhile, I have an errant brother to chase down. I found him wasting his time away at some night bar with a crazy woman who ended up hugging my thigh and begging me not to take my brother home! I am also starting to see things that did not make sense - like how everything seemed to freeze around me on certain occasions and how the only people who were able to move around freely when this happens were me and that crazy woman. Not to mention how I saw a book move into position when there was no one there! Did I just saw a ghost???!! Have I gone from amnesia to being disillusioned? That's what I thought until it rained... but I could still remember that crazy woman! Is she the person who can cure my amnesia? Why am I suddenly finding her rather cute? And why am I suddenly reading romance novels and practicing disgustingly sweet and arrogant love dialogues with my pillow just so I can convince that crazy woman to be my girlfriend??? I think I am really losing my mind!
It's a brief but satisfying ending. Love how it ended with the doors closing on the family of three with the background wintry scene. This is exactly the feeling this series gave me - winter and autumn, whereas Ten Miles Peach Blossom was like spring. The style of directing is the same as Ten Miles Peach Blossoms because it's the same director. This director does not like to spend too much on elaborating endings, which leaves the audience some room for imagination. All we needed to know is it's a happy ending. Anyway, now that this is over, I am looking forward to the Pillow Book.
My guess...the bald dodgy looking guy's going to be the next Demon Lord. Could it be that he's the Demon Lord portrayed in 10 Miles Peach Blossom? I am guessing that this story is a prologue to 10 Miles because the Heavenly King is still young. Si Ming is also young and he hasn't become Dong Hua Di Jun's side kick yet. So, this story explains how the Demon Lord came about.
Hopefully, it's a happy ending for LX and JC. Worst case scenario: give us sweet scenes before killing off main characters at the final episode. Now, that's how you flush 60 episodes down the toilet!
Somebody please sub this trailer for us please......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VYg7QxiYfk
"You guys can't get married." "Do you know what getting married means?" "Yes, it's spreading your pollen. The pollen spread with the wind and where it falls, fruits will grow from it, but you guys are different - one is a dragon and another a phoenix. You guys can only produce eggs." LX and others secretly laughed.
Scene with JC's master: "You guys wanna get married?" "Yes. I thought it would be best to let master know before informing the Heavenly King." "But she's the Queen of the Mountain Forest clan. She can't marry an outsider." "We had discussed this. LX will be abdicating the throne soon."
Scene where LX got drunk: "Where is JC? I want JC!" "You had too much to drink. Let's go back..." "You are not JC! JC, where are you?!" JC appears. "JC...!" Runs to JC and wraps her arms around him. "Apologies. She had too much to drink. We were about to take her home...." "That's okay, I can take her home...." "JC....I wanna hug hug...."

Eps. 37 & 38, it's cute how both guys were sabotaging each other behind her back. It's funny when guys are jealous and competing for the girl's attention! It's a much needed comedic break after all the doom and gloom.
Ji Sung is a good and versatile actor and has good discernment of scripts (which to take on and which to reject). So far, I like most of his work; so hopefully this one is a good one.
