The so-called queer media fans got so mad that the 2 minutes screentime of the straight couple in the series managed…
Criticism doesn’t mean something is ‘rent-free’ in someone’s head. People analyze and discuss media all the time—whether it’s about writing, character development, or representation. If a show markets itself as queer-focused but then prioritizes a straight couple, of course people will talk about it. That’s not ‘whining’; that’s media discussion.
Also, just because people critique one aspect doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the rest. Fans can love a show and still point out things that feel off. That’s how media works.
I see some people complaining we have a straight second couple, but like... do you guys want a better quality…
The idea that BLs need a straight couple to be more mainstream feels like a slippery slope. If we keep making concessions to appeal to a broader audience, where do we draw the line? BL is already a niche genre, and adding straight couples—especially when unnecessary—just risks sidelining the very representation it’s supposed to provide.
Also, the issue isn’t just about ‘mixing things up.’ Straight couples already dominate almost every other genre. Why does BL have to be the one to make room for them, when straight romance never does the same for queer couples? If the goal is inclusivity, shouldn’t the effort be mutual?
I hate how people are justifying the straight couple in this comment section. If a straight couple in a K-drama were rewritten as a same-sex couple, people would be outraged and call it ‘forced representation or they would be screaming ‘agenda’ but when its the other way round they act like it doesn't matter. It’s fine if people enjoy the adaptation, but let’s not pretend that changing a gay couple into a straight one isn’t a big deal. It is.
Everything about this is shitty, from the poster to the trailer, I just complained about secret relationship and now they’re doing worse to heesu in class two. The adaptation looking like a low budget straight high school thriller, heesu looking like he lost his family and had cancer later on, just gloomy, depressing and so underwhelming. The poster is so ass too, they put the straight couple at the top with heesu and seoung won looking like “bros”.
I hate how they changed the story from the manhwa. As a big fan of the original, it’s frustrating to see them alter it so much. The KBL industry should stop adapting bl manhwas if they aren’t going to stay true to them.
