Ok... I feel like it if this has already been said, I may be a broken record, but I get so damned tired. I mean…
Well, considering that this is a SK drama, SK is (naturally) the sole focus of my comment...
I'm not apologizing for wording myself strongly.
Stereotypes should bother you. I will sit down with anybody to help them see that.
Once we normalize it, it's an issue. It should not be swept under the rug.
I'm sorry, but I do not see where I ever said western culture stereotypes are better/okay or how they're appropriate in a response to my comment on SK homophobia?? I get what you're saying. But it's akin to the "all lives matter" vs "black lives matter" thing... You're detracting from SK's issues by going "but look at me, look at me!" This was a very specific comment, with a very specific purpose:
South Korea has a homophobic culture --> This is a South Korean drama that has homophobic stereotypes --> This is a website about said drama --> My comment.
I really don't understand what your purpose is here at all. I will not apologize for not "wording" myself in a softer way. Thank you for your thoughts, however. Good day.
(One of the only jewels in your comment was the community-made petition.)

No, it should bother you. I'm not saying that we should turn our backs on dramas and SK as a whole because it's homophobic, but the worst thing we could do is excuse SK's flaws.
There isn't much else we can do as foreigners just peeping into a country through their dramas. I'm not even going to pretend I know how a member of the LGBQT must feel watching a drama like this and seeing how humiliating it is, but it can't be a good feeling...

You're right. Those scenes are horrendously problematic. Unfortunately, that's just where South Korean society is at presently in regard to LGBQT themes. It sucks. Consensual intercourse between homosexuals is considered "reciprocal rape" and homosexuality is prohibited in the military; Same-sex marriage is not even legal. Lesbians can't get IVF and same-sex couples can't adopt. The list goes on.
SK dramas are bound to have homophobic themes sometimes. I wouldn't blame you or anyone at all for dropping this drama just for that. Hopefully things change for Korea in the future :/
(Strong Woman Do Bong Soon has been opening up conversations of gender equality, so that's something good. Korea has a long way to go).
Min Hyeok is such a gentleman for not kissing her until that's what she wants from the bottom of her heart (when she doesn't like Gook Du anymore), but I want that kiss scene so bad!!
I didn't like this movie at all. Felt more like edgy porn, with a weak and unimaginative plot serving only to make the sex scenes spicier. It's killing point was that the story unfolded slowly and boringly.
Obviously something conjured from the mind of an angsty 19-year-old girl.
I think I'd like reading the book more.
Funny story: I was reading a Dragon Ball Z fanfiction with the same exact premise as this movie, down to the same dialogue at times, but had no idea while reading that it was a rip-off of this movie. It was a really great fanfic though. Anyways.
I loved this movie to bits. It skyrocketed to the top of my faves instantly. Just watch.
The lead's friend who kept calling him "whale testicles" MADE this movie LOL.
"Bong Soon is mine to protect." Word? That's why Min Hyeok jumped in front of a knife for her and got stabbed, while you just stood there like :o Like, you're an effing COP for pete's sake!!!
Need your HELP my fellow Lee Jong Suk fans! How much do you recommend School 2013? I've pretty much caught…
I haven't watched it yet myself, but I heard that the bromance between Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woo Bin is to die for... That alone is what makes it a top priority watch for me haha!
