can you please explain the censorship thing , what happened?
China has super strict censorship with Chinese produced dramas… Because this was a xianxia “alternate universe/time travelling” drama the FL couldn’t come back to the real world with the ML…
She had to wake up from her “dream” to meet him…
Hence why a lot of Chinese dramas have open or stupid endings
Agreed.I also did have questions for some parts of the drama that weren't really answered, but I just answered…
Kinda.. Tencent video owns WeTv so under the same umbrella ☂️
Tencent tv deals with China’s locally produced movies and dramas and WeTv deals with all Chinese speaking dramas produced by all networks in china and in Asia so basically a Chinese Netflix with shows from other speaking Chinese countries.
Esther being the ambassador for WeTV platform allows her to make dramas under different networks like IQIYI and YouKu… if she was the ambassador for Tencent she would only be allowed to be featured in Tencent produced dramas/movies.
Overall Tencent video would be one of the biggest platforms due to owning WeTv but isn’t the most known for producing constant hits compared to other networks.
I’m not too sure about the IQIYI bankruptcy situation.. all I know about them is that they’re one of the largest production companies in China owned by Baidu and is trading well in the USA
Agreed.I also did have questions for some parts of the drama that weren't really answered, but I just answered…
Esther is not the global ambassador for Tencent but for WeTV.
She was however the first female to have 3 hits on 3 platforms with IQIYI Love between fairy and devil, YouKu A Romance in the little Forrest and now Tencent with LGIEF…
I’m assuming that’s why she was asked to be the global ambassador..
And as for the cut out I loved how Ding Yuxi was carrying it around like she was real 😂 but the reason why she wasn’t able to promote Moonlight was because she was already filming for LBFAD…
And I agree that IQIYI doesn’t need to promote bc it’s a bigger production company and definitely relies on star power but I just prefer the script writing more in comparison to other companies ( my script writer friend is gonna be mad at me 😬😅)
As much as I love the fluff and flirting with no satisfying conclusion of the main leads new drama “ Love Game In Eastern Fantasy”…
It’s made me appreciate this drama a million times more… a proper beginning, middle and an end.
The story may seem slow in certain areas but with 4 more episodes than LGIEF… you get to see 75% of the cast from LGIEF and you get multiple kiss scenes, confessions and a proper ending with both leads in the scene 🎬
I’ll still be rewatching my Miao Miao and ZiQi clips from LGIEF but I’ll be forever binge watch Moonlight for its satisfying storytelling.
Please let the drama gods 🙏 give them a 3rd collaboration in the future
Agreed.I also did have questions for some parts of the drama that weren't really answered, but I just answered…
Exactly ! There was so many unanswered questions and my scriptwriter friend boiled it down to the nextworks (Tencent) budget and time slot for how choppy everything felt..The episodes felt choppy because they varied between 39-48 mins and for a novel with censorship issues it had to be condensed factoring in ad breaks 😑
I agree Chinese writers ✍️ have it hard but my SW friend also said it was the script writers decision to not have them in the same ending scene so that everything could be left up to “interpretation ” as a changeable ending 🎬
Ironic considering the whole last episode was Miao Miao trying to give everyone a happy ending…
But Miao Miao did say in the beginning before being sucked in the ending was a total scam for readers.., lol so she did give us a warning ⚠️
Actually the whole drama didn't made sense to me, I just accepted the parts that seemed logical, the rest, I'll…
So the first time she saves him was as a child… ZiQi had a rare illness so he wrote the book as a teenager to cope seeing her pen and hair tie gave him the inspiration to write the story but her standing up to the bullies for another person when he couldn’t “saves ” him in a way as he had lost hope in humanity.,,
The second time she saves him was in the game…
Her mission in the game was to make him for in love with her amongst other tasks.
By her accepting his demon form and protecting and comforting him and constantly risking not being able to return to save him and the story he was finally able to let go of his “emotional blanket” in Ah Jie ( I think the reason FuYu and Ah Jie don’t exist in this world is because they’re completely fictional characters in what ZiQi/Author believes the readers need but don’t actually need)
The rest of the the parts that don’t make sense was either pure laziness from the writers or Chinese censorship issue 😪
That's a lot of mental gymnastics to find closure LOL I agree with this tumblr post more https://www.tumblr.com/dangermousie/767436714904109056/i-saw-your-post-on-love-game-in-eastern-fantasys?source=shareANNNDDD....…
Same 😑 I miss the days of C dramas that had a beginning, a middle and a decent ending…
I guess it’s back to Korean dramas for the fluffy happy ending 😂

Oh what I meant was they went with the trendy open ending.. so far 3 of the 4 (currently airing/almost ended dramas had a terrible “Happy open ending” that has had the same divided reaction. And I feel like pearl girl has one install making it four for four if I’m right.

Omg 😱 I forgot that was another full circle ⭕️ moment my script writer ✍️ friend had also told me about 🤦🏻♀️
She said the ending had to be a “trendy happy open ending” that is an Easter egg just like the bunny apples (from both moonlight and the actual book adaption) 😅😅
True, I don't understand why people kinda hate the ending. Things weren't explained clearly and I get it, but…
Oh I still think it’s a terrible ending but I no longer hate it as much before and at the end of the day it could have been a lot worse…
I think Tencent screwed up majorly with LGIEF ending and lack of kiss scenes even with all the explanations my screenwriter friend has given me.
And funnily she’s now predicted that IQIYI is reaping the benefits of Moonlight now being boosted as a “modern day sequel prequal” with a spike in downloads.
Something Chinese media outlets are reporting too..
It wouldn’t surprise me if moonlight’s rating on any platform now goes up above LGIEF down the track as a result of people wanting a story with the leads having a proper ending and no loose ends…
Again here’s hoping for a bonus episode to help tie up loose ends or a 3rd collab with a better outcome 🤞
I need closure… So this is how I’m going about it before watching Moonlight for the 100th time 🤣🤣🤣
There’s so many ways they could’ve ended this drama around the whole Chinese censorship issue… but they chose the trendy “Open Happy Ending” of 2024 🫠🫣😪
I still think I would’ve been more satisfied if they had been in the same scene/frame in the closing modern scene before the credits 🤷🏻♀️
But after my friend (she’s a script writer in China for another network)explained the ending I hate it a little less now🤔💡
She explained the reasons that led to the “ending” to me as :
-Miao Miao’s decision to change the story’s ending meant that she had to accept the consequences of her actions of wanting to save her friends by agreeing to loose her memories as punishment
- The author wrote the book as a teenager who was inspired by Miao Miao’s bravery but was unable to approach her in the real world after having lost contact after she had changed schools and not feeling worthy enough for her
-Lack of kiss scenes could be due to the author being a teenager at the time of writing the book but also because of his lack of self love and belief someone could truely love him whole heartedly
-Miao Miao’s words of encouragement online gave the real life ZiQi the courage to finally have the operation he needed and his last thoughts before going into surgery was of MiaoMiao and how he wished he could have confessed to her hence why she was sucked into his book
Now for the actual ending..
Apparently the whole Miao Miao waking up believing/convinced it was a dream was because of Chinese censorship laws…
Her returning to the real world and feeling out of place and trying to remember the person she loves is supposed to be part of the whole “ full circle ⭕️ “ moment in the ending of the story
Her seeing the characters in real life was supposed to give her the realisation that it wasn’t a dream but her memories
And ZiQi calling her name is that full circle ⭕️ moment of her remembering him because he promised her that he would never leave her behind and will always look for her over and over again just like how she chooses to always be there for him no matter what over and over again.
Keeping his promise and finally writing them all a happy ending in both worlds and so the letter/ book dedication was supposed to be a “beginning” not an “ending” for their relationship
Does anyone agree with my screenwriter friend?
P.s she also says a bonus episode should definitely be made to tie up loose ends but that IQIYI is the only company that really does that 😑
Apparently c netizen on Weibo and Chinese social media are equally angry about the ending of LGIEF that it’s…
The ending is a “Happy” open ending..
Throughout the last episode it is heavily implied that an ending isn’t always an ending but a new beginning…it was more about being able to love oneself before loving another through ZiQi/The writer ✍️ and that Miao Miao was his saviour in both worlds.
I believe the screen writer wanted us to interpret that ZiQi whether in the real or Game world will always find and be with Miao Miao even if she forgets him over and over again…
And I’m guessing the reason for the lack of kiss scene (if you count the credits kiss as one 🤷🏻♀️?) is due to china’s censorship or the fact the story was initially written by a teenage Ziqi in the real world suffering from an illness…
iQIYI taking advantage of this and promoting moonlight is so funny to me
Apparently c netizen on Weibo and Chinese social media are equally angry about the ending of LGIEF that it’s got them rewatching/downloading Moonlight as a “modern sequel” to it… which actually works as like an alternative universe kinda like in well intended love 🤔
This drama needs to be renamed “ Self Love in Eastern Fantasy” !! With what the script writers/ director has done with this drama.
I’m all for the self love to finding love sub context /message the story is aiming for but when you’re market your drama as a romantic fantasy drama.. you should deliver!
The ending was a supposed “open ended happy ending” the leads got almost zero kiss scene ( does the kiss scene at the end of the credits count?) and zero interaction on screen in the modern world with only ZiQi’s voice calling Miao Miao at the book signing.
If you don’t want to waste your free time watching this drama just to be disappointed with how it ends. Just watch the Miao Miao and ZhiQi highlight reels on YouTube and their variety show before forgetting LGIEF.. then watch/rewatch Moonlight for equally cute romantic scenes that delivers in both kiss scenes and a happy ending…
The only way I see the writer redeqming themselves in the slightest is if they dropped bonus “closure” episodes to fill in the blanks like they did with LBFD.
Hoping to see this pair reunite in another drama with a happy ending in the future 🤞

Nah she’s a scriptwriter for Hunan MangoTv

Tencent sees the backlash from the ending and provides one for viewers 😅
Now I kinda wished IQIYI had produced it 😂
