About XJ's mother death in tv adaptation I'm okay, I like drama moments and sometimes even misunderstanding (unpopular opinion). If there are not abuser, unhealthy relationship. betrayal, revenge - I'm absolutely fine with the conflicts and drama for more drama)))
E.g. in Love O2O was the most calm love story without anything. Just romantic moment. And... oh, gosh... how it was boring)

For most viewers "being strong" means combination of physical and mental characteristics, ability to make decisions, to take responsibility, to take a stay and be a leader.
Sifeng is the such unique type of ML who completely trust to FL and never betrayed. And the unique type of ML who never got revenge on someone and never asked to be thanked when help to someone.
That's why people respect and love this character.
And yes, this drama is "and the winner is love", thankfully for us :)
It will be till the end and Sifeng will continue protect XJ and his clan risking his life.
I see that you complain about this or that, often "frustrated" or "shocked"... I don't know, may be better to stop watching and find another drama with your type of plot and ML?..
