When he woke up from what happened it was the closest we have seen him to wanting to kill someone. I would say he is just not cruel enough to cut all ties. It's not that he doesn't want to. I feel like his tie is not to the family, but to his grandmother. Afterall she raised him. To cut ties with someone who raised you is kind of hard. If you think in reality cutting ties with your parents. Would you be able to do it instantly?
