The fact that they removed the BL aspect of the story is enough to say that this movie is homophobic trash. There's…
There is no logical reason to remove the BL aspect from the movie when it was perfectly fine in the manga. Even if it wasn't the most important thing to the plot, it was still very important to the lead characters themselves. They don't usually do this to straight characters, so why are they doing this with gay characters? The Untamed, for example, has done this too. Granted, the people behind that show tried their best despite the censorship, but it still wasn't enough. Any hint of homosexuality was mostly suppressed.
I'm just not a fan of "it's not important to the plot" argument because romantic subplots in genres like action, adventure, or fantasy are not that important to the plot sometimes, but it's there for the sole purpose of developing their characters and relationships. You're all about plot, plot, plot, but characters matter a whole lot too. Like I said before, there were many scenes and dialogues in this movie that could've been shortened or removed, and they could've given a bit more time and attention to the characters' relationship. It's not a long to ask for that.
And I can't stress this enough, this is a blow to gay representation. You might not care about that, but most gay people do. So I will blame the authors for allowing this to happen, and I will blame the movie industries for trying to take away representation.
The fact that they removed the BL aspect of the story is enough to say that this movie is homophobic trash. There's…
Careful, you're dangerously sounding like one of those people that think racism against white people is a real thing. Look, you can try to simplify complex issues like this all you want, but the fact of the matter is that there has been a whole lot of damage done to the gay community by society, not to mention the constant hate and prejudice that they had to endure, even to this day. There is that fear and trauma that still lingers from the past. These are not "justifications", it's a harsh reality that many still struggle with, have some compassion. But no, you wanna make this about straight people when it's really about trying to make the safest place possible.
"We live in a heteronormative society where heterosexuality is universally accepted around the world, and it has always been that way since the beginning of civilization."..............this is a known fact that is known by everyone. You might have misinterpreted what I said.

I know some people in the LGBTQ community feel uncomfortable going to clubs with straight people that they don't know due to lack of trust because of past traumas and/or hard childhoods experiences. Your straight friends were denied access to a place that is generally suppose to be a safe haven for gay people, which is a big reason why it exist in the first place. But I'm sure there are plenty of other gay clubs they could've been allowed in. Besides, a large majority of clubs and bars are straight, and gay people don't always feel comfortable there with them. Not because of their heterosexuality, but because some of them might be homophobic and try to harass them. So again, there is no hatred against heterosexuality itself. If anything, this just goes to show the large amount of work that society has to do in order to gain the trust and reassurance of a marginalized group that have spent decades, even centuries, of being oppressed and discriminated against.

We live in a heteronormative society where heterosexuality is universally accepted around the world, and it has always been that way since the beginning of civilization. There has never been any case where a straight person is discriminated against for being straight, nor do they have any history of their heterosexuality being oppressed, ostracized or made illegal. If there's any hatred for straight people, it is towards those that keep pushing their homophobic beliefs and attacks. Quite frankly, "heterophobia" is not a legitimate word, and it shouldn't be treated as a legitimate word, as it doesn't make any sense.
The fact that they removed the BL aspect of the story is enough to say that this movie is homophobic trash. There's…
I think it's fair to say that society is more than ready to see movies with a gay lead character. But movie industries in Asia, or especially in Hollywood, always had a tendency to go backwards, even when the rest of society have progressed much further. Look how popular BL dramas have gotten over the years. There's clearly some financial success to be made here, this movie could've made more money.
The fact that they removed the BL aspect of the story is enough to say that this movie is homophobic trash. There's…
You don't think I acknowledge the progress that LGBTQ representation has been having in recent years? That still doesn't mean that we're there yet. Wake me up when a major movie studio finally comes out with a big-budget, action/adventure/fantasy, blockbuster movie with a gay protagonist and his male love interest for a wide release in theaters, because that hasn't happened yet.
And yes, their relationship was underdeveloped, which certainly doesn't help elevate the plot itself. There were many scenes in the movie that felt like it should've been shorten and cut out, which then could have been replaced with more romantic scenes that further enrichen their relationship to help develop their characters for the benefit of the story.
I understand that books and movies are two very different mediums, and things have to be added, changed or removed. But a large majority of movie adaptations have done this WITHOUT removing heterosexual romantic subplots, and many went on to be critically acclaimed.
So it doesn't matter whether it's a movie or a TV show, they shouldn't have removed the BL aspect of the story. Especially since we all know that it's because of HOMOPHOBIA. This is blatantly disrespectful. Don't you get that? Not only are they ignoring them as potential audience, but their taking away their representation. You think that's fair to the people that felt truly connected with these lead characters?

It made their relationship stale, and it lacked development. Also, by removing the BL element of the movie, they took away representation from gay people. Representation matters. Let's be clear here, the reason why they removed it is because of homophobia, not for the benefit of the movie. Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of movie industries trying to erase the existence of gay people.
thank you!! like its literally in the description of the show and the title of the episode (just friends), and…
If that's the whole concept of the show, then it wasn't executed properly since most of these episodes still felt romantic. Besides, people watch this series for their favorite cute pairings, so they fully expect BL to be...you know, BL. And EP 2 is still freakin' weird.
Some BL dramas (especially from Thailand) have problematic tropes or cringey dialogues or misinformation about being gay.... but man, Tonhon Chonlantee has ALL of that, and more! Recent Thai BL dramas have gotten better, but this one is already outdated. Heck, even in the last episode, Ton and Chon are having a baby together through surrogacy, and while Ton wants to be called "Dad" (obviously), Chon wants to be called "Godfather"? What?! They can BOTH be called dads! And Miriam shouldn't be called "Mother" because she's only the surrogate! Can we stop with the heteronormativity?!
First of all, that's just how he naturally talks. Second of all, you're a rude, judgemental jerk.
Let me make this very clear to you. The only reason why I'm calling you out in the first place is because it's offensive to describe the way a guy talks by saying that he talks like a "14 year old girl". What a strange, weird thing to say when you're only talking about how he's delivering the lines. The way you write in such a vague, unspecified way would make any reader scratch their heads and think "what?" and assume that you were mistaken about which character you were talking about, which is exactly what happened to not just me, but the other person who replied to you. Which means that the problem here is you, and not us. I mean, really. A 14 year old girl? How EXACTLY does a 14 year old girl talk? How do girls speak and how does that relate to how you deliver the lines? You've never explained that at all, and yet you expect us to understand what you're saying. Maybe you should take up some writing classes, so that people will get that where you're coming from.
First of all, that's just how he naturally talks. Second of all, you're a rude, judgemental jerk.
I'm only repeating what YOU said. Didn't you say that Chen spoke like a 14 year old girl? Yes, you did. Didn't you say that he delivered his lines unnaturally? Yes, you did. So what are you trying to say about how 14 year old girls speak? You just don't make any sense. It's all pure nonsense and lacks any logic. Stand by your original comment all you want, but that still doesn't change the fact that you don't make any sense. Enough said.
First of all, that's just how he naturally talks. Second of all, you're a rude, judgemental jerk.
My comprehension is fine, not my fault you don't know how to specify. Apparently you think delivering the lines "unnaturally" is somehow equivalent to how a 14 year old girl speak, which makes no sense. Oh wait, let me guess, you're gonna tell me that I'm misunderstanding. Or maybe you just don't know what you're talking about. At the end of the day, you are the only person who seem to have a problem with this. Seems like you're in the minority here. Like I said, get those ears checked.
First of all, that's just how he naturally talks. Second of all, you're a rude, judgemental jerk.
I have rematched this series, actually. And it has come to my attention that you have a hearing problem. Get those ears checked because you clearly don't know how 14 year old girls talk.

and no, heterophobia doesn't exist.
