I started this drama out a little on the fence since I had read parts of the novel and it wasn't what I expected of a mafia setting since they literally spent more time in uni than doing mafia stuff but they did such an amazing job rewriting! I love every single aspect of this drama!!

I saw Shinomiya shirtless and I had to double check that this was not a k-drama cause I was not expecting it! I'll probably just keep watching since there's not much else out and it's not as bad as some other shows we've been getting

The story is pretty cliché and it will stay that was till the end. This style of writing just permeates the bl manga world and every single month I see a new bl manga with these exact tropes. I don't know why people are giving you such a hard time for disliking this show because everything you said is spot on and you have the right to leave a review! I guess they're the audience that had been keeping the bl manga market for this type of relationship trope alive...

And for those who are saying the couple is realistic, maybe, but in the bl manga world they're such a common and annoying trope that it feels stupid and overdone.

The tropes are not my only issue too, for me the entire show just feels filler and falls flat in a lot of aspects.

Hopefully Japan can make a bl that suits your taste more in the coming months!

I just noticed an uncut version was released a few months ago but what a bad strategy it was to even release a cut version on Netflix where most people would watch it.

If only the lack of director's cut didn't totally ruin my watching experience... The individal scenes were amazingly shot, they're magnificent, but they felt so randomly stuck together that the plot made no more sense and the pacing was totally off. Plus the overall message was weirdly exposed...

What an amazing ride this was! I still cannot get over it despite watching it when it aired. Not only was the plot very good but the lighting and the production quality is the best i've ever seen from a K-BL! See you again some day if the sequel ever airs!!

It's been years since I watched this drama. I still think about that one scene where the FL says she "only stalks the ML like a sasaeng, nothing bad" when a lady comes to report her ex husband's stalking.
1) Sasaengs are just as dangerous as normal stalkers
2) FL, you're a creep.
I think about that scene at least once a month. As others have said, please ignore her and you will like the drama much more. She is objectively useless to the plot and feels like a last minute addition.

Knowing how the industry works it would have been hard to fully commit to exploring the themes while captivating a mainstream audience, but I I am so happy to at least see a start in the right direction. We can only hope that the audience will become more attuned to this type of representation.

I think we should first consider the sciptwriters before the audience. A lot of the issues usually stem from the script itself. I love how Secret crush just shows us the characters for who they are, not personnified by their issues, which is usually an issue in a lot of shows. If most shows have a trans character it's only for the cliche trans storyline, same with overweight characters. Not for their entire self. Heartstopper was so good at having well-written representation and characters!

for the entire Secret crush I was just waiting for that one weird script part or badly written scenario that usually comes with having such themes, especially since this is a comedy. I was totally expecting a "no of course you cannot top haha" or "maybe you should act male" *cue the cutesy hetero transformation scene* or "your weight is an obstacle I can bear" that would just ruin it for me.

I just cannot get over how aware the scriptwriters were of the themes they portrayed! Yes some key scenes could have been longer and the tone less
comedic but there were no mess-ups. Wow I went on a tangent lmaooo I love this show.

it feels kind of filler to me so i would recommend it if you don't have other shows to watch. Same vibes as "Be Loved in House: I Do" but not as good.

Main couple: mediocre, generic, I don't feel much for them at all. Second couple... *sighs*

I've watched shows with these themes more than one time as a pre-bl wave fan who basically only had Addicted and A Round Trip to Love to watch so I'm somewhat immune to this storyline, but this series... Unlike the others listed, this story normalises the toxic behaviour. I don't really mind when the toxic stuff is shown as a guilty pleasure because it's an alternate fantasy land but now there are other shows I can watch. Not only is the abuse trauma arc horribly handeled and it hurts for me to say that even ARTTL did it better but now they're acting like the dad should be ashamed of ever questionning why his son whould date his r*pist who even showed him the tapes... Doesn't sit well at all.

Could we please leave this scenario back in 2016 with the censorship ban please??? Why would they ever think of bringing that screenwriter back after MODC?

This show was such an unexpected gem! I went into this show bored and with no expectations but it's so good. Not only does it put a very interesting emotional twist on the body swap concept but it's also a very good bildungsroman (as my Lit teacher would say). The characters find a new understanding of love, friends and family though the lense of this new experience. The bl couple was great but overall I much prefer how good the character development was for the main cast. This show just shot straight up on my favorite j-bls list!

I don't really know if it's polite to give recommendations here but Ano Toki Kiss Shite Okeba is another amazing japanese semi-BL that also deals with the body-swap cliche in a very original and emotional way like here. Both shows have a very similar style but a totally different setting!

that's true! I totally understand that but even the scenes that could have more layers without delving into the storyline like in the last episode could have easily been fleshed out more. Daisy's 180 when Touch said I like you as you are was way too fast.
Fingers crossed since this series was so popular that they aired it in a cinema they might jump on the bandwagon and make a special ep like 2gether and Lovely Writer! And since people showed so much support for TouchDaisy they might take it into consideration!

36 episodes feels like too much for how little there's left to cover... I hope they don't add weird side-plots and extra tombs like some of the previous series to stretch the show

If you have the time to devote yourself to watching the entire franchise (like 200 episodes) in order then yes you will understand more and appreciate it better. This show is so, so much better quality than the rest of the franchise that if you watch it you will never be able to stomach the other spin-offs and prequels unless you like the actors.
If you don't have the time and want a great experience then go for it after reading the lower comments responding to this question to have an idea of the plot but it's very easy to watch as a standalone if you don't start trying to understand the deeper context and putting the puzzle pieces together.

Though this drama didn't really cover certain topics as well as they could with Daisy and Jao's body issues but it's amazing to actually see these topics even acknowledged in BL!!! Like repecting preferred pronouns, switch couples, communication and support between partners, and the list goes on... I hope this show will become a benchmark for other BLs so we can see more of these themes.

episode 14 will be Intouch and Daisy's episode they said, turns out we only got a 2 minute super undeveloped exchange that ruins the whole build-up... i hope we get more of the couple in a special episode or in another project!!!
