I heard similar things too. Kdramas are too popular and some high school or university students want to visit…
I completely agree with you that Asian are seen as worst than any other community/ethnicity in countries outside Asia. In westerns countries, for an unknown reason, they think only racism against black exist, meaning discrimination/racism against asian, white and others does not exist at all which is something I'll never understand. It seems they consider asian as immensely weak and/or non existent, for an unknown reason once again.
Can anyone living in Korea care to educate me, because this is just my opinion. But I don't think Koreans in general…
S.K have strict and hard immmigration rules. Although I wish to live in S.K, I don't see anything wrong with having strict immigrating rules. I don't see any racists rules in strict immigration rules. It's logical even if it does makes things complicated for those whose who want to live in S.K, of course.
Now to discuss the racism part of the show. The world at large needs to stop painting in such specific strokes,…
Thank you for the reply, at first I was confused about the "racism" critics but now I understand more why some people are sensitive and want to censor it. I just would like to highlight the fact that people with dreadlocks who likes raggae truly exists, there are also white people wearing dreadlocks who likes raggae. What I mean by that is, if you feel uncomfortable watching someone with dreadlocks then the problem is not the one wearing dreadlocks or the director/author of the webtoon, but the person who feels uncomfortable watching someone with dreadlocks. In all honesty, I did not think that the "raggae guy" was supposed to be mocked, or at least not as much as the two main leads. I don't know about the others, but this character did not makes me laugh, I've laugh about the things he has said, not about his dreadlocks. But that's me. In this Kdrama, he's even close friend with the ML, which is kind of "positive" from my perspective. But again, I understand both side of the coin now thanks to your comment.
I would like to make two response, once for the age gap, and one for racism. This comment addresses the age gap…
Thank you for your reply on the age gap issue, what you've shared with us is all true (and not only to the asian but to the westerners as well). If I'm not wrong (correct me if I am), the issue in the drama is that she was a minor when she kissed the man who was major (with him being 10 years older than her). I think it would not have been an issue if she was major (19 yo) when she kissed him. It would also not have been an issue if they were both minor when she kissed him. I said I understand the issue but in this drama particularly I think there is nothing wrong because it was a brief kiss and they have met each other three years after which means she became major/adult. In our modern society, when you're major/adult, you're fully responsible for your own decisions and actions.
He is not a Jamaican friend. He is a Nigerian friend. They are just happy to meet and share their love for Jamaican…
Haven't you noticed this K-Drama is a comedy drama ? Every characters are kind of "weird" in their own way because nothing in this drama is supposed to be taken seriously since it's a comedy drama. Not a political drama. Even korean ppl in this kdrama are kind of "weird". It's common in comedy to exagerrate some traits of some personality. So if it's the way they act that bothers you, then I suggest you to not watch comedy but don't say it's racist. If the looks bother you then I don't know what to say to you because people like the raggae character who are dressed like that with dreads truly exist, so if you don't want to see them then or if you want them to change the way they are dressed then idk go see them or don't idk ? you sounds like the way "raggae" lovers are dressed is an issue in itself which may sounds hypocrite. In addition, you've said that KDramas has their issues with the portrayal of black characters ? Really which kdramas ? Because in serious kdramas I've seen the black actor portraying serious character (like in Moorim school he is a professor, in itaewon class I don't know but I bet nothing is wrong in there as well because it all depends of the genre of the drama).
I absolutely agree. It's so incredibly racist and too many people here are really just gaslighting each other…
Well I respect your point of view and thank you for your reply. I was concerned about this at first because I though the racism was real and offensive. How can you even link all those terms to the character? Comedy always tend to exagerate some traits of some personality, and this one is not an exception. This K-Drama never said the raggae character is the representation of 100% of the people of the community he is supposed to be in. He is one character with one personality in a comedy drama. Plus, he is a close friend with the ML which means he isn't rejected, he isn't supposed to be the bad character or anything. There are serious K-Drama with the black actor who is living in SK, and he's not oversexualized or anything. It all depends of the genre of the drama. I could be wrong too but from my perspective, it is a little bit sad to see all series and movies should always portray the same portrait of a person of certain ethnicity but if it's how it is supposed to be now, then I guess we should accept it.
I absolutely agree. It's so incredibly racist and too many people here are really just gaslighting each other…
Ok I've heard you guys stating there is a "problem", it's "racist", but what is the problem exactly and where/why is it racist ? Because from what I've seen, there is nothing wrong with the raggae character.
Okay, so, I've watched the first ep, and I really do not see anything wrong with any scenes. Although I understand the issues going on for the age gap but it's a comedy drama, almost nothing in there is serious or should be taken seriously. Most importantly, I really do not see any racists scenes. Does anyeone can explain where they've seen racist scenes ? Iv'e just seen a "raggae/dread-guy" being a "raggae/dread-guy" ...I though it would have been offensive but it was not unless someone explain to me please. I'm confused.
I've dropped it, it's not bad but not good enough to captivate me until the end. I never was a big fan of historical (sageuk) drama so it didn't help. I gave it a try for the main actor and he didn't disappoint (as well as the korean cinematography and production of course) but the story in itself is a little bit boring, to me.
I've always though Seo ye ji is an underrated actress since I've watched her in "save me". Her chemistry with Woo do hwan was insane as well so I am not surprised her chemistry in this type of drama is great with KSH too. I am glad to know that she's getting more love.
Mad Dog had an interesting premise at first and a good cast, and it indeed is a decent drama but I felt something…
oh, you've expressed my thoughts about this drama :o But the only difference is that I rate this drama 6.5/10 (I would not recommend this drama to anyone except to the big big big fan of one of the actor/actress).
I didn't watch it, but the cast is geat so I'll give it a try someday xD
