I honestly don't think Squid Game's characters are a strong point. I actually didn't cry once because I simply didn't care about any of them. But I had never thought about the Recognizable Symbols thing, and I think you're absolutely right!

Personally not hyped up about Squid Game's 2nd season, but counting SECONDS to Alice in Borderland.

Agree with most of what you say, but promotion is not done by the actor's company, but by the drama's production/network (which are probably not the same).. so unless in China is different, it wouldn't impact the promotion budget

Honestly I was the SLS QUEEN when I read mangas. In dramas I feel they usually make it pretty obvious who the ML is (they get only one big male actor, so..).
School 2015 was a HUGE SLS for me. But also Startup, Cheese in the trap, Go ahead, A-teen, Because It's The First Time.. and so many more.

But regarding the article, a recent drama that fits this is Itaewon Class. I did have SLS cause 'the nice guy deserved her more'. And I will reflect on it.. but really.. I do watch dramas to enjoy myself, so I don't think is wrong wanting the nice guy to get the girl haha

I hope it's not like Love Scenery, I waited for ages for it to be released ToT

Hm but it really doesn't. become a relevant part, I mean. I was turned off by that as well but had hopes it wouldnt be like that, and indeed they don't go in that direction an be much more realistic then you might expect. :)
