I love this show! By far, it is one of the best in the 2023 BL lineup! I know a lot of people rag on it but I think the story is cute, Jade is cute and goofy and silly and really, really extra (sometimes it is too much but it fits him) and Mai is so in love with him. What I really love about this show is that it shows a love interest that is not about "Oh wow he is hot and unlike anyone else. I want him!" but "Oh wow this guy is funny and cute and adorablely weird. I want him!". Mai is so in love with Jade and who he is even when he is being his extra goofy self. That is true and pure love that will get them through anything!
But what I will never get is in the last ep Mai begins to doubt that Jade likes him.
..uh...what?
I mean Jade and him had been the cutest in the game and Jade cared for Mai and even cheered him even when Mai was a part of the other Team. I know Mia can feel Jade likes him, but now he is douting it?
No, hon! He loves you so much! He is just scared because of his past and doesn't want to get hurt himself. That is the most human response that a person like him can have for reacting to what happened in ep 5 and 6.
Is it right? No. I think Jade should have let Mia explain that GusGus (yes I call him that. It's cute!) was just helping him out and GusGus is in love with Tong's tsundere butt. I think Jade shouldn't have given up so easily but again when you are use to things like this happening to you, it is only natural that you back off.
But Jade does have a lot to work on. He has no self-confidence and who would when you are so used to being...well...average. No one looks at you unless they are looking for someone else. No one sees you for you or someone just thinks you are weird. Everyone wants you just so that you can help them out with something or get to your friends. But no one loves you and wants you.
Then BAM! Here comes someone who is showing interest in you! Of course that will give you a lot of doubts.
I will say that the show takes it a little too far when it comes to how oblivious Jade is to what Mia's feelings are but I still understand Jade. Someone as beautiful and talented as Mai having an interest in someone as average and so used to being the middleman as Jade seems so impossible that he has to believe that they couldn't really be into him.
But it's ok because Jade will have to fight now to keep Mai when Mai is the one starting to push away. He will have to face everything and realize that despite his averageness, he loves Mai and wants him too and that he is worthy of someone like Mai.
