Korean drama world must RICH as a new genre already. So many shows with almost no character difference at all.…
Why are you actually watching kdrama? I agree with most things you have written. I see kdramas as low-effort entertainment, almost an extension of Korean politics. It is soft power to sell the country as an ideal place. And all the people that have never been to Korea fall for it.

But from time to time I do watch it, but with no real expectations. It is a guilty pleasure, I see it as a good way to waste time, which I believe is not the case for you. You seem to genuinely dislike most kdramas and you do not get enjoyment watching them, so why do you spend so much time watching something you hate?

I really enjoyed the first 2-3 episodes, but then I think it started to lose momentum, also from a police story…
Haha, I think we are watching different dramas then. Because the friendship-sisterhood is probably the biggest theme in the second part of the drama. The growing up of Kawai as a woman (her first date) and as a police officer as well. Also, the two guys are playing a big part in the second part, so there is also a lot of bromance. Until what episode did you watch? I personally find that it gets much better. It started mainly as a funny drama, but the last episodes were funny but also very serious.

According to many critics, this season would determine the future of medical dramas. As there is a clash of styles…
Yes, I enjoyed both. Although in terms of medical dramas I felt Night Doctor was entertaining, but still not at the level of the previous works of the writer. Radiation House was even better, because the cases were more interesting and more thought-out. Night Doctor was not necessarily about the medical aspects, but more about the emotional and social aspects of being a night doctor.

Definitely looking forward to next season with Radiation House 2.

According to many critics, this season would determine the future of medical dramas. As there is a clash of styles between Tokyo MER and Night Doctor. Tokyo MER won the ratings battle, but I am definitely team Night Doctor. Tokyo MER is not bad (it is actually quite good), but it is too tokusatsu for my taste.

I enjoyed this drama more than I expected to! The final episode felt a little weak maybe because the tone was…
I kinda like Nagano's voice. It is very clear and tuneful.
Replying to Saarthak Sep 18, 2021
Do special episodes part of story or a spin off or they contain behind the scenes ?
The special episodes are filler to fill up the absence of Nagano. She contracted covid and therefore could not act in a few episodes, so the drama was paused for two weeks until she fully recovered.

These Netflix Original dramas are 10 times better than the usual network kdramas. Extracurricular, Kingdom, Move…
That is just cherrypicking. Would you say the same about Love Alarm, My Holo Love and The School Nurse Files?

Where were the elderly husband and wife going in ep 5? Why did fuji said to the wife that it's okay to rely on…
Suicide. The wife did not want to put the husband in a elderly home, because in Japan (but also the rest of East-Asia) that is uncommon and frowned upon. Family is an important institution in Japan and therefore one has the responsibility to take care of them no matter what. Normally the children will do this, but the daughter had a strained relationships with her parents. The wife, however, did not have the power to take care of her husband so she went to good spot (probably a spot with good scenery such as the mountains, forest or what not) to commit suicide. That is why they were dressed up so nicely without having any belongings with them. Fuji convinced the wife that it is okay to trust other people. It is not a failure nor a sin to do so.

So I took a chance and wrote a currently watching article on this, hoping that this beautiful story would be seen…
I glossed over your profile and saw that you put Okaeri Mone "on hold"? Any specific reasons why? Did the quality drop off?

Actually what you are saying is probably not true about Yamazaki. According to your list, you have watched the Japanese version of the Good Doctor. Yamazaki played the autistic doctor there, so you have seen some of his work!

Major Breakthrough. I know all of them had breakthrough before. But in 2020 they were recognised widely because…
I am one hundred percent with you on this one. My mouth fell open when I saw Moon Chae-won getting mentioned. 2020 is more her comeback year. Even so, she was more famous during Innocent Man and The Princess' Man than after Flower of Evil. So I would not even consider it a successful comeback. During Innocent Man and The Princess' Man, she was one of the biggest Hallyu-stars. It was a toss-up between her and Han Hyo-joo for most promising young talent. Both did not sustain their fame, but they are still considered top-tier and receive top roles. To call 2020 the breakthrough year of Moon Chae-won is like calling 2020 the breakthrough year of Lee Min-ho and Kim Soo-hyun.

I agree with Byleth. Moon Chae-won has always been one of the most famous actresses in Korea and is more famous than Park Min-young. If you divide Hallyu in two eras (one before THAAD and one after), then she definitely was one of the most famous stars before the China ban. She and Han Hyo-joo have taken a backseat in acting in dramas, but if you go to 2014, they were definitely the two top young actresses. Innocent Man, the Princess' Man and to a lesser degree Good Doctor were massive hits - much bigger than Flower of Evil.

methinks you missed the forest for the trees. JJH proved that you don't need words to convey complex emotions.…
No, I found JJH very good, but she was basically a side-character to her own special episode (she appeared I think 15-20 min. in total). I compared her performance to Lee Young-ae and Choi Min-sik, which means a lot. Because they had one of the best performance in Korean cinema. So my criticism is not JJH's acting, but the lack of screen time in favour of - with all due respect - an average performance of the young actress. Go back to this comment section and you will see many comments about how the young actress was the star and JJH was not good... I beg to disagree and offered an explanation.
On Kingdom: Ashin of the North Jul 26, 2021
I find it interesting that people are raving about the young actress. The way she emotes was very good, but she fell totally out of place with the rest of her clan. The rest of her clan had a very distinct and heavy accent, whilst her accent was very neutral. It is like an American among British people. She might be good, but this is faux pas in my opinion - there is no way she speaks with that relatively neutral accent if you are only surrounded by people with heavy accents.

Meanwhile I found Jun Ji-hyun to be very good unlike many others. Her portrayal is more akin to someone like Lee Young-ae and Choi Min-sik in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and Oldboy. The only problem is that she hardly appeared on the screen or had any lines.

All in all, I found this special episode too long. It was very predictable. Acting-wise it was okay, but lacked the small nuances (such as the accent) that I did see with the actors of Season 1 and 2. Should just have been the first episode of Season 3.

Damn bruh, why so much hate for the system? Not every cop is a bad person. This ain't America
Interesting view. I live in Japan and the cops never bother us at all. In fact, they are closer to being useless due to their stable jobs than being part of corruption. Same can be said of prosecutors, judges and what not.

But whenever you get into serious trouble (the heavy crimes), then they will show their power. Other than that, they mostly pretend to hear nothing and see nothing if it does not distort the flow.
On Kingdom: Ashin of the North Jul 24, 2021
I bet my pants off that Young Shin knows Ashin. Also, almost both got the same name. Just go back and watch the first two seasons and pay attention to his job (tiger hunter), his back story and the suspicious things he does.

Yeah, sure... But do you want a world without any cops? Do you believe people can self-regulate? ACAB goes a bit far...
