What a lame choice. The man is 40 years old already. The character played by SJK was a boyish looking sprite in the prime of his youth. It would hardly be a decent exchange to replace him with an old man. They need to reach down to someone younger, with that boyish charm of SJK. There are plenty of up and coming 20-something young actors they can pick from who would jump at the role.
