Plot Loopholes That Held Back an Otherwise Great Drama
1. Forced Character Logic Characters often make irrational decisions purely to keep the plot moving.
- The grandmother extensively snoops through a stranger's drawers and basement despite only being there for cleaning work. - Several characters investigate dangerous suspects on their own instead of contacting the police.
2. The "Open Door" Absurdity For a community terrorized by a serial killer, basic home security seems nonexistent.
- Characters casually enter other people's homes without knocking or permission. - Front doors and gates are frequently left unlocked, making suspense feel artificially manufactured.
3. Frustrating Horror Tropes ("Solo-itis") Characters repeatedly ignore common sense and put themselves in danger alone.
- People wander into dark alleys or isolated locations late at night without telling anyone. - Even Bong-yi, despite experiencing severe trauma, often shows little of the caution or hyper-vigilance you'd realistically expect.
4. Convenient Communication Drops Communication repeatedly fails whenever the plot needs characters to stay uninformed.
- Characters discover critical clues but don't immediately call or text their partners. - Phones conveniently lose signal or become unusable at the exact moment important information needs to be shared.
Despite these frustrating plot conveniences, Mouse remains one of the most gripping and ambitious psychological thrillers I've watched. The performances, twists, and emotional weight were strong enough that I still thoroughly enjoyed it, even while noticing the many plot loopholes.
