Oh dear, he’s in another survival show. He’s a great choreographer, but in a series with young men his attitude towards contestants is upsetting to watch. I thought starlight boys would have been enough for him, but he’s back again.
I actually agree with you ,I’m not saying that Hu Yetao isn’t talented, but honestly, Thio’s vocals are…
I understand, perhaps another way to look at it is that Hu Yetao can Sing, Dance and has Visuals so I don’t necessarily see him as weker than them, they all have their strengths and all top 3 have their own x factor or star quality ☺️
Guys I LOVE Hu Yetao but he is maybe too overrated like he is reaaly talented but I just think that most people…
Hu Yetao hasn’t even performed yet and your judging him. Thio is a great singer for sure but he comes across as a solo artist and what he says doesn’t match his actions.
I love this director's works....most beautiful bl's I have ever seen..they make every one of their work just amazing...I…
That’s what attracted me to this BL the directors ‘art’ work. If you look up artisans like Vivienne Westwood, Andy Warhol and Banksy you’ll see what I’m referencing. It’s such a capture of today’s youth life that is quite captivating.
I was skeptical of the two beginning leads and their acting however PJ and Leon really are bringing this home for a win for me.
Leon and Pj save this BL for me. Especially Pj, what a slow burning, intense, obvious yet subtle portayal of Baabin, I see great things for him as an actor.
It is a shame as there is good production value overall so they have funds. But the continued bad/over acting…
I think your right. IMO If they made shorter episodes like Korean BL’s 30 minutes max per episode, fine tuned the story line, tightened the script and instead of paying out for the extra unneeded actors and invest that money into better script writers and acting coaches during filming. I feel that would definitely solve a few issues for them and I say this sincerely because they are fun to watch, up to a point.
This really lowers the level of BLs. There is such an amazing standard in other countries, but then we have to watch this. It just doesn’t make any sense as the production value is great. I understand that budgets and actors vary, but there should be a point in time when you either reduce the duration to produce a higer quality product or you just stop and try and find work under the guidance of other more experienced BL practitioners and start again or collaborate. At some point Oxin need to take more responsibilty for their work and try and raise their standards.
It feels like the MDL rating for this series has been inflated. This is no better or worse than any other Oxin…
It is a shame as there is good production value overall so they have funds. But the continued bad/over acting really lowers the standard for BLs, Oxin need to read the room and either collaborate with a better quality production/acting company or at least employ advisors and/or professionals from other countries or intern for more successful production companies, try anything but this, it’s just sad.
10 for the talent and zero for Hybe’s messy predetermined storyline’s. Less of the average staff/judges and more of the very talented contestants. The staff and editing really take away from boys amazing talents and their own personal journeys, that’s what we want to watch, not 1 minute to change a routine because you set them up to fail, let them fail on their own then help them to succeed.
Thanks for the honest reply. I’ll definitely change it if things get clearer with stronger acting and script.…
That's exactly what's missing, you nailed it. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The imagery is so strong and very Warhol like and that got me excited about this series but it's missing the irony but as you said we're only 3 eps in, so maybe that's their plan and we'll see some character arcs and ironic storylines develop, here's hoping :)
Wow so glad he had a supportive crew and cast, bodes well for another season. I agree his eyes definitely tell a story, great work. So cute when he said “Even the actors really liked it." Haha looking forward to seeing more of your work 👏🏾♥️🙏🏾
there’s literally only been 3 episodes so far and atm yes i agree it’s slightly slow but because they’re…
Thanks for the honest reply. I’ll definitely change it if things get clearer with stronger acting and script. Perhaps they are setting this up for season 2. I will note tho that there are only 7 eps so 42% has been shown so I think it did give me a good indication of what it is offering especially acting wise and if I truly think of top tier Thai BL actors and compare them, I think my acting score was on the kinder side mainly because I think Leon Zech shows promise. There are some phenomenal young Thai actors who don’t need to forecast their inner thoughts or subtext but your able to see and feel their inner monologue without all the signals.
I give this kudos for showing a slice in time with a BL feel. The doco style Warholesque/Westwood/Banksy feel is refreshing. The gels are 10 outta 10, werk the spinning wheel!
Other than that it’s particularly boring. Some of the acting is very obvious eg over glancing at each other so we know that your glancing at each other, No real punchiness to the script to match the visuals. Repetition of the same theme then going nowhere. When the main character sped up the series he was watching in ep 3 I thought that was my cue to do the same.
‘Study Group' is my new 'Squid Game', the high school version.
It begins with the hilarious script, with comedy parts no doubt penned by Oh Bo Hyun, from 'Island' and the hilarious 'Behind Your Touch'. How she came into partnership with this quite brutally bullying gangster action drama was a stroke of someone's genius. Without her this would be a tough watch as it is very physically and emotionally brutal.
This leads me to Wanna One and Nu'est god (haha) Hwang Min Hyun. He's racked up quite a few great roles and awards and rightly so. His comedic timing and screen dead pan face is a killer, literally lol. There are many scenes where his inner monologue is screaming, but with dead pan eyes, then BOOM out it comes. I can only guess this would have been tiring for him to film on many levels, but I'm hoping he gets award kudos for this role (after he finishes his military service I guess, excuse my ignorance here).
I could go on about all of the actors as there are some heavy hitters in this great cast but I'm not really a review type of person, however, I do want to mention Ju Yeon Woo, I may have had some tears at the end of ep. 8, his story arch comes pretty fast with a big wallop at the end, cheers to him! I'm also guessing Shin Su-hyun had a great time being a heavy hitter (pun intended) in this drama, she was excellent.
The OST kicks off (pun intended again) with Zerobaseone's Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook's 'Backpacker', awesome track. The killer tho is Bang Yedam's 'Hollo', especially at the end of ep. 8. Can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks.
The violence is horrendous so be warned and I can see why it's not so popular for many viewers, but I can also see why it's currently ranking no.1 in many places. If you can hang in there, there are meanings in there in regards to academia, survival and doing what's right.
Such an amazing opportunity and a real first. Absolute congratulations to Mandee Work and everyone at DMD. They have really out done themselves getting to this point. Being able to support so many actors in this genre is a huge achievement. Can’t wait to support you all. 👏🏾🎉♥️
