K Drama at it's Violently Comedic Best

Coming from Australia and not being Korean I have been amazed at the amount of excellent k drama writing, directing and acting talent taking the world by storm. 'Study Group' is my new 'Squid Game', the high school version.

It begins with the hilarious script, with comedy parts no doubt penned by Oh Bo Hyun, from 'Island' and the hilarious 'Behind Your Touch'. How she came into partnership with this quite brutally bullying gangster action drama was a stroke of someone's genius. Without her this would be a tough watch as it is very physically and emotionally brutal.

This leads me to Wanna One and Nu'est god (haha) Hwang Min Hyun. He's racked up quite a few great roles and awards and rightly so. His comedic timing and screen dead pan face is a killer, literally lol. There are many scenes where his inner monologue is screaming, but with dead pan eyes, then BOOM out it comes. I can only guess this would have been tiring for him to film on many levels, but I'm hoping he gets award kudos for this role (after he finishes his military service I guess, excuse my ignorance here).

I could go on about all of the actors as there are some heavy hitters in this great cast but I'm not really a review type of person, however, I do want to mention Ju Yeon Woo, I may have had some tears at the end of ep. 8, his story arch comes pretty fast with a big wallop at the end, cheers to him! I'm also guessing Shin Su-hyun had a great time being a heavy hitter (pun intended) in this drama, she was excellent.

The OST kicks off (pun intended again) with Zerobaseone's Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook's 'Backpacker', awesome track. The killer tho is Bang Yedam's 'Hollo', especially at the end of ep. 8. Can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks.

The violence is horrendous so be warned and I can see why it's not so popular for many viewers, but I can also see why it's currently ranking no.1 in many places. If you can hang in there, there are meanings in there in regards to academia, survival and doing what's right.
