Though the puzzling story line kept me on the edge of my seat, it is very typical, that a J drama will disappoint you at some point. For me this time is ep. 11 and its just spiraling down from there. Why oh why.
Maybe this is the kind of show with weak plot but filled with strong characters. Takuya is great as always. But for me, it is Sanma's performance that steals the show, He can deliver detective Doujima as a simple person on the surface yet give us a glimpse of a darker complex character. Sometimes I can feel his pain by looking at his expression. I found Eri's perkiness is annoying and out of place. The story itself is weird, creepy and fucked up and it's just too much to be believable. I think the script writer is trying to be sophisticated, but failed. The dialogues are long and sometimes it bored me to sleep. Although I'd give applause for the idea of Ryo's photographic memory skill as a plot device. Ryo's childhood picture also happened to be a quiet smart clue. The three of them are not 'him, father and mother', but 'him, father, and sister'. Overall I don't like this show. Not hating it, just not liking it.
Somebody said about Sex and the City and I'm totally agree. The girls friendship theme is so strong, and became the soul of this dorama. The other girls (Miki about her husband and Shima about her sexual journey) arc are very interesting and could become a different dorama entirely. I like almost all the characters, even the salon staffs and the cafe owner. They are very solid and funny. Too bad I'm not buying the lead actors chemistry. It wasnt the acting is bad, I just don't feel the sparks. And I don't know why there are so many doramas that start strongly but withered towards the end.
The chemistry between Naoki and Riko is strong. The story is rather light and entertaining. I especially like the sub plot of Mai and Shuji, they are so funny. And loove love about the friendship between Riko and Mai. If only they make a better ending and elaborate more about Riko-Naoki relationship. An epilogue to make things clearer and more satisfying, maybe?
I think this is one of the best sport dorama with a great chemistry and romance between the characters. The ending is very satisfying with a cute epilogue that tells what happened years later. And the OST by K is soo good. I totally recommended this.
