I love art and music. I have watched only few chinese dramas, and I really dont know this is already the most popular one. I literally jumped into series by just randomly stumbling onto page and after just reading description. But seeing only few episodes I immediately noticed its artistic value and cinematography, and the direction where each character is methodologically developed to their best roles.
There is no pressure to make you find the next hook immediately but each episode allows you to wait and create meaning and experiences that connect to you personally. The philosophical impact is very deep, and even if there may not be direct counterparts, you will find similar people and scenarios in your circles, even in modern world, and I feel the narrative is part of giving voice to it - but the drama goes beyond just words and voice.
Because when I see the symbolic motifs, I can see there is a clear selective choice - when the water dewdrops are merged on leaf, blooming flowers and various floral selection in their hairpins, cranes, Cymbidium orchid and its pot, the orchid and rock painting and the recurring motifs of both to FL and ML, the boxed grid doorframe shots on self entrapment and the wide shots of courtyards for structural oppression, the red apricot blossom leaning over garden wall, earthly tones, the layered painting as symbolism of her duality, static grid shots on ming decorum but long tracking shots when agency against feudality, the angle of shots to the characters arcs, two magpies birds, ... I truly dont know full interpretations of many and if there is chinese cultural symbolism involved for each but atleast I can fairly say there is a selective symbolic choice from director and writers in picking these frames. I know i will catch more upon rewatch someday and hopefully I can find various meanings of these motifs by then if they are implied implicitly.
If you have found certain motifs and if you think there is chinese cultural symbolism to those, please feel free to reply to me. Thanks.
Pasin switches the role and then the master and student fights together again while min-hye drops by and with Q all of them turns on the Kusanagi;
and then the supposedly eavesdropping lawyer entering room without knock turns out to be the main villain who promised the business to Kasunagi in that audio call. well glad I am just speculating and not the show writer lmao.
I hope Q survives, turns on Kasunagi and helps Jinman and Jian then she can have that drink that was promised…
I was thinking of exactly this, there is a promised pending drink; even if Q knows truth, and they still can be enemies with other killings, a drink can work out somehow
