Interesting point, I wanted to add my own thoughts if you don't mind. It's going to be a semi-long response, I…
Thanks for your reply!
I do know a little bit about Start Ups since my cousin works in one and has watched this show, so she gives me feedback about the working and undergoings of a Start Up. And im also a business major with an economics degree, so i know how funding and putting a business means. At least in theory, never practiced that in the corporate setting.
About their dreams and motivation, we should look back on what the two have written when they entered Sandbox
DM: To ride the upper floor elevator- to be a CEO DS: To turn a misunderstanding into a reality
I love the idea of Sandbox, because it softens the blow of the fall. And I know that was DM's father's dream. And when SST fell, it was hard, but it also wasnt that hard. DM's dream of being a CEO of her own company was ruined. But her getting back up and joining Injae after years of passive-aggressive petty fight, shows her strength as a character. And i admire her strength. This girl lost everything she held dear in a span of what, 2 weeks? The lies of her first love and her company. I cried with her when she asked grandma ' fall is coming but im falling even before i bloom'.
TARZAN is DM's vision, she also said that during her 3 minute speech at the hackathon, that she is excited on SST's journey in using technology to service different field. I dont think you call that 'cage'. They even said during their rooftop meeting that it will be hard and expensive, but they were willing to do it. And after working for Injae, she put up her own company, using her dad's name, both sister honoring their father. And both are also willing to spend money on this.
TARZAN is not just a car, as DM said, she was inspired how this machine continues to learn. And i dont think in anyway that is holding them back. Because just as TARZAN keeps learning, so is them.
And about DS, the misunderstanding can be interpreted in two ways 1. He is her first love 2. He is a hotshot CEO
I know there's a lot to say on who is really DM's first love, but if we talk about the REAL one, we knew by the end of ep 11 that it is DS. He is not a hotshot CEO, he has given that up. But he is still the hotshot programmer from 2sto after 3 years.
On their success for 3 years , they havent depended on each other but on their own capabilities, which are both acknowledged from DS success in 2sto and IJ's trust on DM's idea and drive.
DS as we have known never really know what DREAMS in that signed ball means. flash back when he was asked by Chan Ho, he said " with friends i want --" but was cut off by his dad and projected to him a dream instead. But what he said tells us that whatever DS dreams, he will always want to work it with people. His dreams are not money nor society's idea of success but people or his friends to work on something to help people. He created a face recognition software that won CODA, but just JP pointed out, he has no viable business plan. He does not know where to channel his genius. But upon meeting DM, he found it. She has the vision and he makes it into reality. Using his talents with coding to help people. I.e. NoonGil and now the self driving car.
So one way or another they are fulfilling their own dreams, and those dreams happened to aligned together.
DS and DM are really each other’s swing and sandbox.
The biggest example here is TARZAN the self-driving car. It was pitched by DM on their night of planning for the future in SST’s office, and for three years, the two worked on it, though separately. As we have seen the Cabin scene, DM was inspired by DS’s metaphor for machine learning, thus named the car TARZAN, and DS too was inspired by DM’s idea of a self-driving car thus worked on it for 3 years in 2sto. We can see that even being apart by time and land mass, the two pushed through their dreams while still thinking about each other. So both pushes each other in the swing, and they are also each other’s SANDBOX, especially DS coming in to save the day and also investing in DM’s company and working for her again. They are each other’s comfort zone, the one they can be vulnerable with and not be afraid to tell each other’s dream, because both will work on it together. So I think DM’s prayers were answered when she entered SANDBOX, she really reached her dream and also found a companion to share all the ups and downs with. These two has my heart.
1. She called it romantic2. She said it was a better analogy3. She introduced him proudly. Nam. Do. San. With…
Darling, House is an entirely different drama and in a different spectrum than our characters. Why bring him here? LOL
1. If she is being polite, she would've not remember his words, and not use it as an example too. If she is being polite, she should've said that his explanation was good, not romantic. And, his analogy by the way was praised by different real world programmers. (Another point for the writer)
2. If she was being polite, she would've just nod her head and agree, not turn it to something more beautiful. And it is a beautiful quote. "You're that star over there, the one that looks like a tiny dust particle. A fixed star that is much bigger than the moon." To make something that beautiful out of DS explanation of basic astronomy goes beyond being polite.
3. Yes, she is drunk. But dont they say that when you are drunk people tend to tell the truth. Because alcohol takes our inhibitions away. Thus, one tends to be less guarded and say what they really want to say.
The difference of House and DS here is that , DS and DM are business partners sharing ideas is a must. and two other programmers is there to contrast DS reactions to DM's words. Upon DM's suggestion, they did not process it and reject it basing on their own experiences and also their own capacity. So in the scenes I have previously cited, you can see he actually listened to her. Thought about it and made it work.
I admit I am on NDS camp, but it does not mean i read HJP every move wrongly. I have read all explanations why HJP can be a good match, and I dont mind them, some have valid arguments too. And im not mud slinging here, im not trying to invalidate your POV rather let you look at it on another way. and if you feel offended, I am sorry.
The camera shots, bgm, the acting and the conversations and interaction tells you what is happening. plus, we still have 6 episodes left, the drama still has so much to unravel. And you never know what will happen until it happens.
Evidence that SDM does not get NDS at all, and they are not meant for each other.1. NDS tries to explain AI to…
1. She called it romantic
2. She said it was a better analogy
3. She introduced him proudly. Nam. Do. San. With a smile and hands pointing to him.
They get each other. DM is the visionary, DS makes it happen.
Example for you: The handwriting code. She suggested it, they made it. It did not work at first, but upon DM saying she likes rock better than flowers because its practical, DS interpreted it and change the whole system. The Noongil and JYS team up. DM said, wouldn't it be nice if guide dogs can talk? 2Sans: no, unless we are God or Tony stark DS: DM, you are genius And he made it work. That is how beautiful their dynamic is Another example DM reacting to comments and reviews on their app, he sees her reactiob, and try to find what comment annoyed her the most, and it was how Noongil takes too much battery Next thing we know, he told DM he fixed it.
Please watch the show without your bias lens. Each character is solidly written. And if you cant see that, better drop it. You are changing the narrative to fit yours. And honestly, that does not look good.
What I love about this drama is its consistency with its themes. One is about CHOICES. Its been the main conflict between the sisters and their family. We are all seeing the result and effect of the choices our main characters (DM, DS, JP and IJ) made.
DM, our FL, had made clear that she never regrets her choice. Because she will do everything to not make it a bad choice to make sure that in the end, she will not regret it. She said this to Saha during the Hackathon in her reason for hiring her and her choosing Dosan. She also said this to JP when she choose her as the group's mentor.
Now, to other choices. Both our ML has choices with what to do with the lie, and I believe that enough people have argued about it that to rehash it again is just REDUNDANT. But why im writing this is to Highlight the Episode 10 title: DEMO DAY.
As defined by the drama Demo Day: AN EVENT WHERE START UPS DEMONSTRATE THEIR PRODUCTS AND BUSINESS MODEL TO INVESTORS. And I have seen few people say that the theme for this episode is off, because the Sand Box Demo day did not even happen yet. But I disagree. There is a different Demo Day that is actually happening. And the Start Ups that are participating : NAM DOSAN and HAN JIPYEONG. their Products are themselves and their Business Model: is the future. The Investor is SEO DALMI. Throughout the episode, the boys try to demonstrate to DALMI their love, and themselves. So yes, contrary to everyone who says the drama is poorly written. I whole heartedly DISAGREE. Its beautiful, its poetic and we still have 6 episodes to see. So I encourage everyone to just let the drama tell its story. But if the writing does not meet your expectations, maybe its time for you to drop it and find another drama that actually suit your taste.
Cant wait for ep 9!! The hug from the TVN stills looks so good. The height difference and the actors build is like two perfect puzzles, Dalmi looks so comfortable inside NDS's arms. *heart eyes*
I don't know if it's the acting or the way the character is written but.HJP shows a lot more remorse for continuing…
"DS's competitiveness with HJP starts in that party where they play Go-stop." Uhm, no. DS was not really competing against JP at that time. He just took not of the weird reaction of JP towards DM's words. If you are thinking why he was winning the round, he was actually so focused in the game, and was fumbling at first (which btw was hilarious) but he won because he finally learned how by the end.
"The review notebook or feedback is for NDS and his team not really for SDM. NDS knew what he was doing by giving the notebook to SDM. He was just waiting patiently for SDM to connect the dots." Uhm nope. DM is SamSan Tech's CEO, the feedback is also for her to read. You can argue its for his selfish reasons, but wouldnt it be more selfish of him to withhold an information that involves the health and well being of a family member? Dalmi has a right to know about her Grandma. And Dosan just choose the better route, which is to lessen DM's pain and give her more time to deal with Grandma's illness.
Your opinion about DS and how you feel like they dont fit together is up to you really. But what i just dont like how you try to twist the narrative and DS's character to fit yours. But eh, whatever floats your ship i guess.
Anyway, here's a beautiful write about ep 7. I hope you take time to read.
And thank you for your replies. Forgive me for ending this discourse, i just feel like its fruitless to discuss, we will just be going around in circles. So let's agree to disagree? ?
I don't know if it's the acting or the way the character is written but.HJP shows a lot more remorse for continuing…
Sorry, i dont keep time stamps. I just remember the sequence of the scenes. and forgive me for not bothering to look them up. But if you have watch the drama, you will know what i am talking about. About Grandma telling Jipyeong she will tell the truth to dalmi SOMEDAY, and Jipyeong was first hesitant to agree, but he indeed agree. Yes. I know that. But have you seen the after? Even though DS told JP to keep up the pretense, He only had to reject DS's suggestion, but why didnt he?
and that scene in ep 7, i dont think DS was particularly mean, as you said it was two male ego butting, so why cant DS also stand his ground and answer JP back? Yes, he maybe coming off arrogant with telling JP that those letters dont matter anymore, he just believed in himself that maybe Dalmi can finally like him for who he is, not just the boy in the letters. He heard his friends and acknowledge their fears about the company, that Dalmi and their relationship is a 'bug' that can ruin their company eventually. so he rather clean the potential 'bug' early rather than let it foster and destroy the whole system after. So he told JP his intention of telling the truth. Because to DS, the knowledge of that letters exist was introduced to him by JP, and then he met Grandma, because she is the root of this. He also included her to tell the truth to Dalmi, but of course we knew how that turned out. But also in Ep 7, JP went back because he does not want for the lie to be revealed. which is funny, he should have, because he might have chance with Dalmi if the truth was revealed that night. So really, THANK YOU HJP, you threw your chances again.
though the first identity lie was between 3 people, while the lie (grandma's illness) is between him(DS) and Grandma. it means he is accountable of this lie now as he is directly involve. Plus, he gave the review Notebook to Dalmi, telling Dalmi, "she wants you to read this". I dont think he is betraying anyone here. and Grandma was not even angry about it. and you completely misunderstand the characterization of Dosan. When he made that app, he was just thinking of Grandma, because he was thankful towards her. Not just because he "wants to look good in front of Dalmi" He was even willing to push back the project when Dalmi proposed working under Morning Glory. have you even seen and understand his pitch?
HJP has his own motivation, just as well as SDM and NDS. i love HJP. and i cheer him on for his journey of self-love and learning to love. But the way you try to make NDS to be opposite of his characterization is confusing. are we even watching the same show? lol
I don't know if it's the acting or the way the character is written but.HJP shows a lot more remorse for continuing…
Hmmm. You can send me time stamps if you want. And i can also share my read on the scene. or just tell specific scenes, i have rewatched it enough to remember. If you are talking about the scene in Ep 3, after the Networking Event. The lie is not DS's alone. Jipyeong was on it too. He even dressed him and let them use his home to make the lie complete. while he could've just rejected them. and he has rejected them quite enough already. if you are talking about after the hackathon, JP even admitted that he actually dont know what to tell Dalmi that is why he walked out. For me, why im not bothered by Dosan is that he already have distanced himself from the lie, or the persona that Grandma and Jipyeong created through the letters. And Dalmi is not dense, as we have seen in Ep 7, she find the Dosan now something new and needs to get used too, so she sees the difference, but the thing is, the difference from Letter Dosan and Real Dosan is not that big of a gap for Dalmi to think that this is a whole different person. So i can understand her confusion. And the fact that Dosan never want to talk about the letters is him telling Dalmi that the boy in the letter is not him. But he could not tell it to her, because its not just him that is involve in the lie, its him, Grandma and Jipyeong.
I don't know if it's the acting or the way the character is written but.HJP shows a lot more remorse for continuing…
I dont think that jipyeong shows a lot more remorse than Dosan though. I feel that it is more Dosan who is bothered by the lie more than the 2. because if they did, as the real people who is accountable of the lie, they would've come clean already, even with Dosan's budding relationship with Dalmi. Because really, who is Dosan to them? they wouldnt care less if they outed him. And with Dosan, there is always a physical tell when he lies. He twists his hands and avoid looking directly. I think the remorse you are seeing from Jipyeong is his remorse and guilt towards grandma.
Okay, Honest Question, why did not the ML pursue her like a normal guy would with someone that caught his attention? And making her fall in love with you because of your sincerity? And not this manipulation of an engagement contract which is so stupid. I watched S1, and hated how that twist happened. And upon watching Eps 1 and 2 of this season, and thinking they did it differently, i am very much disappointed. This is another manipulative, obsessive, stalker love story that is not romantic at all. Im sorry, but im not here for it.
I do know a little bit about Start Ups since my cousin works in one and has watched this show, so she gives me feedback about the working and undergoings of a Start Up.
