childish story. business side is ridiculous and somehow sold as serious. ML tbh cannot carry the weight of his…
I feel the complete opposite in terms of the chemistry. I found Bai Lu and Luo Yunxi's chemistry pretty hot. Very believable and natural. But I found Bai Lu and Dylan's chemistry awkward and very underwhelming. Interestingly I also found LYX far more believable in his role than Dylan in his. ๐Ÿ˜… (and I say that as someone who likes Dylan)

I really enjoyed this drama. It was exactly what I needed. I love costume dramas, I love romance and fantasy, but I was craving something really different and this filled the void for me. Great characters, great tone. I think it was sometimes a bit too slow though. But I still enjoyed it anyway. I heard there will be a season two, does anyone know when that is being filmed?

Even though I enjoyed this drama, I do wish the OST had been a bit longer. Even just a few songs more because I don't think 5 was enough. But I did really like the songs that were on it. Since I finished it a few months ago, "Borrow Dreams" has been stuck in my head so that one is definitely my favourite. What are other people's favourites?

They are busy shooting different dramas, but both in Hengdian World Studios. Last month, their two crews ate BBQ…
Oh okay. I just thought if they were seen out having dinner at a restaurant together that would be something that would make the rounds on Weibo pretty quickly. Especially when it's related to them. So I was surprised to have missed it.

I did read that Luo Yunxi was seen out to dinner with BL and the MM crew the other night by restaurant workers but that got taken down pretty quickly too. Things move fast!

So I guess its actually not all that surprising with things getting deleted๐Ÿ˜…

thanks for the info & the link! I'll check it out๐Ÿ˜Š

Oooooh, that's an interesting bit of gossip. hehehe. I've not seen this talked about anywhere, not even on Weibo. Do you have the link to the restaurant owners account? I'm interested now. Was it just the crews or were they there too?

why do you never trust a 10/10 review, Iโ€™m asking for learning purposes ๐Ÿ˜‚
Because there are very few, (if any), truly 10/10 perfect dramas. When I see a whole lot of 10/10 ratings it just feels unlikely. Inflation of ratings is a thing just like intentional downrating is a thing. It's the same reason I don't trust 1/10 ratings (or 2 or 3 star ratings)

If someone really feels something is a 10/10 that's completely fine. It's their opinion. But it's just something that gives me pause and I dont always trust when looking for dramas.

(I did like this one! And would even recommend to others if they asked. It just wasnt a 10/10 for me.)

Ok. I've never actually written a full review for anything before but why not, I'll give it a go.

I'm actually not sure what i'd rate yet. Because I did like it a lot, (though maybe not love it ) I'm not good at deciding on a rating. Because there are parts of things I'd rate high and parts that i'd rate low and parts i'd rate kind of mid. I'll think about it a little more.

I will say I liked that the relationships between Xuening and the men were all quite different. That was cool. And I really liked the relationships between the women a lot as well. (maybe even more than the men....)

I'm also aware of the intentional downrating and over inflation of ratings on here - even before I had an account when I used to come to just look at reviews and stuff. This is why I don't really trust it fully anymore. no matter which way it goes.

As in you canโ€™t continue?
He was misunderstood (especially towards the end) but I also think it was meant to be ambiguous and grey sometimes. An audience can see justification for his motives (even Li Susu could understand even if it still scares her) But his lack of hesitance is meant to raise a question to the audience about what influence the evil bone is having on him. Is this a ticking time bomb kind of deal.

If we take what happened to one of the nannies. She had planned to betray him. He reacts instantly with getting back at her - that's definitely fair to an audience. But then she is r@ped and abused to the point of insanity as a result of what he did and he does not care in the slightest. That is supposed to be the part where people question, despite empathy for him, where it may lead. It was an interesting kind of tension. Before learning to care for the world he wants power for the sake of power (as he's never had it) and not because he really gives a damn about the world or it's people. Obviously this changes and he becomes someone who does care and wants to be a good a king. I think it's supposed to insinuate that he has the capacity for evil. And while he understands morality, in the beginning he doesn't care because he hasn't developed his full emotions yet, but as they develop and he is influenced by those around him (YXW, Xiao Lin, Ming Ye etc) he develops his own morality. So definitely a misunderstood (and tragic) character but also not always a righteous one. And then there is the stuff I mentioned. Not r@pe (certainly not in a physical sense.) But definitely a kind of violation and meant to be unsettling and messed up.

Anyway this is a SOKP board and now I got onto analyzing morals and motives of TTEOTM. I'M SORRY, MY BAD! I like that both of these dramas had characters that weren't always perfect. Flawed characters are a lot more interesting. I liked that about SOKP too. Even if it was shown differently.

Just finished a few days ago. It was pretty good. I was hesitant to watch because honestly all the 10/10 reviews here put me off. I never trust a 10/10 review. And I was right not to because it was not a 10/10 for me, personally.

But I still enjoyed it a lot. I wish we got to see more of the 1st life though. Which seemed like it could have been more interesting actually. Bai Lu as a scheming empress would have been a lot of fun.

This drama had some interesting characters and lots of different kinds of dynamics and that is it's true strength in my opinion.

production and directing was not always the best. (cinematography & lighting) . It was a bit odd. But i've heard this director is notorious for that. Weird choices. But...I can mostly look past it. it doesn't detract from the characters and the story too much.

Yeah there was no chance they would have been able to show novel TTJ in a drama. I don't think we'll ever get that level of evil from a ML. But I don't think he was always portrayed as a misunderstood hero in the drama either. Just thinking of one example. He invaded Ye Xiwu's mind, took her free will, forced her to hurt and kill someone, specifically to isolate her and turn everyone against her. His intention was that by doing this she'd be forced to go back to him while also believing that she didn't want that or him. That's definitely at least morally grey. ๐Ÿคฃ

I mean I understand that at that time he believed she had tried to poison him, but still.... going inside someone's mind and forcing them to do things against their will, was meant to be obsessive and creepy. Which it was. ๐Ÿคฃ This isn't a criticism either, I did love his character.

XW was obviously also unhinged sometimes and morally grey, it just played out on screen differently.

I've never watched a cdrama before so I'm intimidated, and I only want fantasy shows, would you guys recommend…
In all honesty this doesn't really have a lot of fantasy. The only fantasy element really is the transmigration/time travel aspect. It's definitely more of a character driven/political intrigue show than fantasy. (with a little romance on the side) If that is something that interests you then yes I recommend it.

If you only want fantasy, I'd maybe try some of the Xianxia or Wuxia dramas. Both of the leads in this have Xianxias. Bai Lu's Till the end of the moon is a very good one. Then there is Love Between Fairy and Devil which is also very good (Zhang Linghe is second ML, but the leads themselves are wonderful too)

I NEED SOKP TO HT 9 ASAP AAH ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Why do you need it to hit 9? It going up or staying as it is (or even going down a little) is really not going to impact anything. It's already a hit. (and the Douban score is probably more important in China anyway) Not to mention 8.9 is already a very high score for MDL.

lol! ๐Ÿ˜„ I mean it's pretty clear for anyone with eyes that he does. He's affectionate with her in a way I've not seen with any of his other female co-stars. So there is definitely a bond of some kind there.

Dylan and she are also really funny and chaotic together, and there doesn't seem to be any negative tension between them. So yeah I also think they're all good too

But yeah Yu Zheng.... he's not going to let her go without putting up a fight. I just fear that Lulu might feel like she owes it to him to stay, out of loyalty or something.

If she's under contract with the agency she can't just leave. It will be a matter of waiting until her contract is up, whenever that may be.

I don't think her co-stars really hold it against her personally. Her manager opened his big mouth about Luo Yunxi too, and he still seems to adore her.
I imagine Dylan knows her well enough to not blame her for that as well.
