Thank you for your expression. I went through a lot of ups and downs. It feels like a parralel to the characters. I went through a lot. I am female. However, being female is not a weakness. The only weakness is if you can't believe in yourself. I disregard genders, however, admittedlty I have a soft touch for my nieces... therefore females. I guess I had it tough growing up. Guys always bullied me. As an asian who studied better than them, they bullied me worse. I even had the entire school bully against me because the white guy pushed everyone to.
But "That was Then, This is Now". Also, another great piece of literature. S.E. Hinton. It is even used as standard literature for students. Just like "To Kill a Mockingbird."
No one can ever be truly "RIGHT". It is only from our standpoint.
I love MDL because we can all discuss our points of view.
Gosh, are we now admitting how old we are? This is truly a great point in Movies before COVID. APPLAUSE PLEASE. 👏🏻
I told you, I am not against you. However, I am not a ' long-haired grass' - I don't blow where the wind blows harder. I am strictly against misogynistic elements. I may be old in my thinking. But I fought for a long time. It hurts when I see these kinds of things still happening.
I don't want it to happen to any of my sisters or the next generation. This is why I fight for it so hard. My brother has two daughters. I am trying hard to make sure they have a good life.
I didn't mean to offend you. I referred to your thoughts in another reply. In fact, I am don't feel like I am against you. I would prefer to agree to disagree. 🥰 Warm hugs. Sorry if I offended you.
Thank you for understanding some of my thoughts. No one else can ever understand my thoughts unless they were literally in my shoes. Also, @@Tricimc.... I don't think he or she is wrong. They just don't see things from my point of view. But does this make that perspective wrong? NO WAY!
I am not taking the loser's way out of an argument. Rather, I pause momentarily and take a step back. After all, this is just a drama.
Thank you. I may not agree with you on every point, but I think I can agree to disagree. Is that ok? 🥰 If I may, I would like to send you a warm hug too.
I have never wanted to fight with anyone who is a "Lamenter"; I just wonder if they ever suffered from this? Would they still like the character?
If they ever suffered, then they would hate the ML. Yet, I still love my ............
"Lamenters" believe in the romance. But what if you were deprived? You had to live each day thinking about the means, and you started understanding economics when you were just a child? Tell me? When you had to give money to your dad because you knew he needed it. You were just about 11. Tell me how?
There is more, but this is the patriarchal style.
Can "Lamenters" who have never felt masochistic governance STILL LOVE THIS ROMANCE?
If yes, then it is blind romance. You have never felt the fear, the hurt, the trauma. You like the romance and the love. This is ok.
But never forget that behind your romance, so many people felt so much hurt and trauma. We didn't eat for days; we got beaten because someone else just wanted to throw their pain on us.
You will never know this.
I am not trying to make this drama go bad. Rather, why highlight RED FLAGS?
Some people are good. Some people are bad. Some people are grey. We are all the same.
However, we should highlight those people who pretend to be good whilst they have bad intentions.
I believe in your views. I can't say if my views are right or wrong. And I don't want to be what they call the moral police.
But of course, fiction is fiction. Fact is fact. What I am scared about is that lesser-educated people think fiction is a justifiable means for them to conduct worse actions/problems. I know that this is all but just a fiction, a drama. But when it becomes popularised, then certain lesser educated people think this becomes standardised. When it becomes a standard then they think it is justifiable. Then, just because all of the drama lovers here who love the ML see a spread of men who actually think this ML's action is accepted. Then rampant domestic violence happens. This the "Lamenters" want this to happen? NO. They just didn't realise their romance could cost others so much.
I don't hate the "Lamenters". I just want them to recognise how bad the ML is. And not to allow it.
I agree. I don't think there IS an answer. There is no right or wrong. This is the world.
That's why I understand why people love this drama. However, I have seen so much hate in real life; that's why I don't like it in drama. But, heck, that is me.
To each their own.
You are able to express your opinions on this platform so eloquently. I don't question your opinion. I am scared of too much EXAGGERATION of this drama that EGO drives rural MALES IN CHINA who ABUSE THEIR WOMEN.
Whilst promoting the drama, please also speak about your detestation of patriarchal or masochistic behaviours.
You speak because none of you ever felt the trauma behind the bad ML. I am not speaking badly against Cheng Lei. You all romanticise everything yet disregard what is happening in real life. By saying propaganda in this drama, you are all giving small ways to give an exercise for illiterate misogynists to say that it gives themselves an elevation? Do you not understand why this is wrong. By passively allowing fictional characters who are loved by their fandoms, you are also helping traumatise other families in real life. The stupid male "actually feels like it is there right to harm females". Did you think of that?
This is you: well-educated people versus less educated people who copycat.
Read more news when we see other males think it is right because you romanticised this drama. Read more news NOW.
I don't hate the drama, nor do I hate the actors. I hate what it portrays. If we start to normalise this kind of behaviour, then everything just goes back to before. Don't you read about history and why women were forced to be less than men?
I was forced by men. I hated it. I silently went my way upwards because I knew fighting against men would not allow me to grow. So I grew. I grew in my own industry and made money. However, I was never allowed to tell my story.
Whilst the "Lamenters" can love their story..... may I ask them to think about how this popularity affects others? Cheng Lei is great at his acting.
You don't condone the character's actions.
Whilst promoting the drama, please can you also state that you don't condone the ML's actions? Not everyone is as well-educated as you. Some people could read only one side. Those people could be copycats. Whilst it may not backfire on you, it may backfire on other people. I have been someone who suffered yet is still able to write. Not everyone is against you.
Your words aren't wasted on Bible bashers. At least I am not one such. The books you have read: Shakespeare's writing, Dickens books. Do you remember "Of Mice and Men"? Do you remember George Orwell's "1984" and "Animal Farm"? They also portray harm to others, and it is all fictional. But I will keep it close to my heart as a reminder to never act that way. I have also read "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky.
The "Lamenters" (positive advocates for the drama) are not wrong. They (you) enjoy this drama. Good for you. I am glad you appreciate another side of this debate between good versus bad. Nothing in this world is black or white. Good people turn grey because of circumstantial influences.
However, I wonder if there could be copycats in real life. You all seem to be very educated. Those who are less educated (than you) may use this drama as an excuse for why they are so misogynistic. What about the rural side of China (female) who actually feel this abuse day by day? (In reality, not fiction.) The Chinese economy is slowly trying to build a better situation for women so that it is not such a "patriarchal environment".
When I read about Cheng Lei's good acting and others' good acting, the chemistry, etc., I support the artists.
Because I suffered, but was lucky enough to get out of it, that's why I get worried about others who still remain in a Patriarchal State. You guys may love the drama because it is fictional. You (personally) would never choose this lifestyle, and it may never happen to you.
However, less educated MALES may take a copycat approach to boost their EGO. More domestic violence may happen because now the media thinks this kind of behaviour by the male lead is being accepted. We are all aware of copycat crimes. Just watch the news.
I am not the moral police.
I am simply asking you to think beyond the fictional story you are occupied with.
I know you can't stop them.
I am not against you, but I'm worried about others.
Honestly. I want this world to be a better place.
Please don't underestimate others. This drama is based on a fictional novel set against a war-torn, chaotic time. Both you and I understand this. But others who are less educated than you may not have read as much. I'm worried about women in rural areas who may be affected.
I try not to be like the moral police, but if I re-read my words, I think I sound like one. Sorry. It just comes from the heart. I am not against you, nor am I a hater.
Who am I to judge others? I am but a mere commoner.
Deeply captivating yet slow-moving story of real events. This is very underrated. Great acting, great script. Powerful directing and performances by all.
I’m honestly baffled reading this. You ask whether modern women would behave this way in real life, as if Ye…
Please don't take it so personally. I'm simply expressing my views on a topic I find interesting. We are merely having a discussion (which is what this platform is for). It wasn't a judgment of your opinion. That's why I used question marks rather than a period or an exclamation mark. 😊☮️
Also, plenty of dramas have smart female lead characters who read the room. I already named one: "Against the Current".
The absurdity sounds a bit like "Overdo"; which is set in a similar time period. But why such high ratings…
Thanks for your reply. Actually, I was referring to the outrageous script, the characters' behaviour, and the dialogue. "Overdo" is often described as a Chinese Telenovela. Albeit, I am a big fan of the ML and FML, both the ML and FML in that drama are quite capable artists - I only managed to get through it despite it being quite emotionally draining. (It sounds like TLOA might be in that same category for me - i.e. emotionally tormenting rather than enjoyable. Others may enjoy it though.)
And yes, many people complained about EPS1 in "Overdo".
I’m honestly baffled reading this. You ask whether modern women would behave this way in real life, as if Ye…
But don't you think that people of all genders should think before they do or say? Even in modern-day life, whether you're in high school, university/college, in the workplace, socialising, etc., shouldn't you have a higher EQ to read the room, analyse your situation and act smarter? So that you can get the best outcome in your immediate environment? Regardless of the context you're in, one should analyse and think first before doing or acting.
This is something exemplified in "Against the Current" and the opposite of "Overdo". As I said, I haven't watched any episodes of this yet. I am basing my views only on this comment trail.
I wonder how many among women/girls who came here to criticise CYX's behaviour would be so stupid to do (in real…
The absurdity sounds a bit like "Overdo"; which is set in a similar time period. But why such high ratings for this C-Ent as compared to Overdo? I haven't watched it yet and I feel like I won't based on what you have described above as well as numerous other remarks.
