Sincere question from a huge fan of this genre. Please don’t be offended, I just want to learn. From what I…
According to what I know, BL drama is used so there's no need to say one/both of them are gay/bi, but I don't think it's a rule.
jpny01 mentioned good examples, but one that they did not mentioned is Dark Blue Kiss (Which funnily has Ton's actor in the second couple)
In it, there are two couples: Pete and Kao, and Sun and Mork. The four of them explicitly say they like guys. Pete and Sun had girlfriends in the past so they could be gay/bi (I don't remember too well if they explained it), but Kao and Mork are gay as far as I know.
The Filipino drama Like in the movies also looks more like an LGBT+ drama than a BL series, its one episode from the finale.
That being said I think some recent BLs while not explicitly saying a character is gay or bi, they also don't use the: I don't like guys, I only like you.
This are the ones I mean, but that is my perception, if someone disagrees please let me now.

Not sure about Mom's comment given the homophobia that suffuses the episode. What bothered me most was not Ton's…
Yeah, I know what u mean. And yes, the effeminate gay being predatory is really bad. It's not gonna happen, but technically speaking they could "fix" that by having a nice effeminate gay guy, but again, not gonna happen.

Some jokes are REALLY outdated. The homophobia of Tonhon wasn't even what bothered me most cause I know they'll…
I agree with you. And to add to what u said, I once saw somewhere that yes, we need realistic representation of LGBT+ people, including good and bad. However, when the only representation you get of a specific type (Femminine gays in this case), it gives a bad impression. The scene would've been different if the guy hadn't been femminine (or I least I think so)
And yeah, in 2Gether at first I disliked Green for seemingly fitting that idea, but he became a completely different character, and I appreciate that.

I'm going to leave my first impression to see how much it changes in a few episodes:
As many have pointed out, Ton's character shows a lot of homophobic ideas. So obviously I hope they handle that in an appropiate way and also I wonder how they are gonna handle him once he starts liking Chon. You know, the dreaded "I'm not gay I only like you". I hope they don't do it, but seems unlikely...
And in regards to Chon hiding his sexuality and being ashamed of liking 'girly stuff' in front of Ton, I hope he eventually realises there's no need for that. If someone doesn't accept you for that, they are not worth of being your friend. So, Chon definitely has the potential of being one step further in the "more feminine gays in BLs" (not saying he's the best example, just that it could help get there). That is if he accepts that in its entirely.
Ohh also, what did you guys understood when Chon's mom told him "you are a man not a woman"? I understood that she told him that that is the reason why Ton is not gonna treat him in a cute way (because he likes girls), not because he should act Manly.
