I'm totally there for the "world full of gorgeous gumihos and goblins." Until recently Tale of the Nine-Tailed was one of my favorite dramas and I love that you used a gif from that. Then you made it even better by including a SECOND picture of Lee Dong Wook. :-)
Yikes. This is a comment that serves no one and nothing. It just adds to the already very loud and divisive noise…
I'm curious as to why you find the comment offensive? I agree this isn't the place for evangelizing, but I don't see anything offensive about someone stating an opposing viewpoint. This person does come across as condescending, but they didn't insult anyone.
I completed both Doom at Your Service and Devil Judge, and I would respectfully submit that, at least in the case of Devil Judge, you might think about giving it another chance. The whole time I was watching it I felt that there had to be something more going on than what we were seeing with all of the characters. Things were hinted at but never really fleshed out, especially in Kang Yo Han's case. The characters were all more complex than most you usually see in dramas, and as such their motives and angles weren't always clear. It did take WAY too long for everything to come together (I was tempted to drop it too), but it was really interesting for me that as the drama wound down towards the end you started to see who each character really was.
I would have liked some more time towards the end being "comfortable," so to speak, in finally knowing where everyone was coming from and where they were going, but ultimately I felt the ending was satisfying.
As far as the doppelganger thing goes, since no one ever commented on it other than to say Ga On looked a lot like Yo Han's deceased brother, I took it as that's all it was ever supposed to be plot-wise. Personally I would prefer that over an actor who doesn't look anything like the person he's supposed to resemble being used.
All that being said, if you really felt like you were wasting your time on it then it doesn't make sense to pick it back up! I say all of this because you said you were disappointed in it after having loved it to start with. The same thing happened in my case, but I felt like it redeemed itself in the end.
Thanks for a well-written and thought-out article!
Tell me what's the purpose of a characters like prince YM in a script of any kind? He's just there for the nonsensical…
I feel he's there for the fight over the crown prince's position. I also think he may be important later when it comes to Ha Ram's revenge. It's hard to believe that Ha Ram has been pretending all this time that the prince is his friend.
Sassy has a good point and if you're annoyed by sh*tty love triangle like i am, the chances of dropping is high.…
The love triangle here isn't a very strong one though, imo. It looks as though Yangmyeong will probably let go of Cheon Gi now that he understands how deep her feelings for Ha Ram go. I could be wrong - I haven't been very good at predicting where the story is going with this drama.
I'm not going to rate it just yet since it isn't finished, but I think this show definitely deserves more credit than it's getting on MDL. It's a great example of a fantasy sageuk. The characters are relatable and very well acted, and so far the script has been great. The only downside for me is that the villains are very one-dimensional and seemingly not very smart.
My takeaway from new seasons being prequels is that they are ghosting FL cause she and romance were by far the…
There's an explanation as to why Lee Yeon was still a gumiho in the final scene; I think it has to do with how a gumiho becomes a human. I was excited at first too that maybe there would be a sequel, but after hearing the explanation I think the only reason he still had his powers was because the process wasn't complete yet.
I did feel like Lee Rang's death (the way he died) left it open for Yeon to be able to get him back from the underworld gods somehow. He did see Rang supposedly reincarnated, but how many times did he see someone with Ah Eum's face over the years and find out it wasn't really her? If the premise of a sequel was getting Rang back, and they had a different FL, I'd totally be on board. I felt like Rang's death wasn't fair (although maybe deserved because of all the people he'd killed), since he had just found some people who taught him how to love and be loved.
To be fair, I'll watch prequels too because Lee Dong Wook. ;-)
I commented here that I was going to drop this drama because of the torture scenes in the first three episodes…
Don't worry about what other people say or think. There's no requirement for you to like what other people say is good. You're watching a drama for YOUR enjoyment, no one else's. If you don't enjoy it it makes no sense to keep spending time on it. Comments can help you decide if it's worth overcoming some of your objections ( I have issues with torture scenes too, btw), but that's all they're good for. People who try to use comments to delegitimize someone else's opinion or say things like "you're just not mature/smart/enlightened enough" are missing the point of watching a drama.
