I've watched 3 episodes so far. I'm having a hard time getting into it because the FL seems somewhat immature. But other people have highly recommended it as well, so I'll keep watching! Thank you!
I really enjoyed it. It was so unique and fresh with interesting characters. But the ending felt lackluster to me. Or maybe it's just some deep seeded desire for MORE which I can't have?
I'm enjoying this drama a lot, but I can feel it start to get draggy (I'm at ep.13). The plot is flimsy at best and I feel like the writer is running out of things. I still love it for the fluffball slapstick goofy drama it is.
ETA: Episode 15 picked things back up and focused on the mystery more. Got a bit darker, but it's so far keeping the touches of comedy which is nice.
I'm very happy that it is popular enough to get bought by South Korea, but what does that mean exactly? Does it…
I'm watching it on YouTube on the Mango channel. I waited a little bit to start it and I think they improved their subbing quality because it's fine in my opinion now.
Someone from soompi said that drama on Douyin get more of 720 millon views in mangtotv 504.5 m views and has been…
I'm very happy that it is popular enough to get bought by South Korea, but what does that mean exactly? Does it mean that it will have a broader streaming availability (possibly being picked up by Viki or another company?)? Or does it mean that they bought it for a Korean remake possibility?
Is this an actual remake of the Korean drama Love in the Moonlight?
I'm currently watching that one and didn't want to watch the same story back to back lol! I don't mind if the basic troupe (girl disguised as eunuch) is the same but if it's a copy of the whole storyline, I would want to wait to watch this one.
I liked this drama. I felt the obsessive nature of Jiang Jin Teng could have been easily explained if somehow the writer had connected him to the future events as well (i.e. somehow he's come back in time as well, or had dreams of his lover dying before they got together and is desperately trying to keep him, etc.) so I felt the only real flaw was some lack of depth in the writing. Even with the shortness of the drama I felt that this could have been added without disturbing too much. However, this had really strong acting and great chemistry between the leads making it a worthwhile watch in my opinion.
I think I would have rated this drama much higher if it did not have the sister/gongsun storyline. I found it so irritating!! And they focused quite a bit of screen time on it!
Great article! I recently finished as well and I completely agree, it is a masterpeice! I honestly don't think I've seen anything like it! All of the characters are so real and you watch them develop over the course of the show. And such love! You hit the nail on the head! I agree that the censorship changes added to the sense of longing and the almost bittersweetness of the relationships. And Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo were just epically perfect in their roles! I, too, am waiting for a whole show dedicated to Xue Yang! That whole story arch was twisted yet fascinating! So far they have put out two follow up movies, which I desperately need to check out!
I absolutely loved this drama. I definitely ran the gauntlet of emotions with this one lol! I found it utterly charming and now that it's over I feel bereft. I do want to give a shout out to Kang Tae Oh for a bold acting choice. Not many young actors would be willing to go out on a limb like that and I think he did amazingly! Much love to the Macaroon Couple forever! <3
Okay, I have way too much time to sit and just speculate on this drama, but please bear with me. I have a possible…
I think Dong Joo always knew about Yoo Mul's bad side. I think something happened in their childhood and she saw that he was hiding a really dark side. I always made me wonder because she was soo cold to him when he would offer her things and such. The viewers are made to believe that this is because she is trying to push him away, but they've known each other for 10 years+! I don't think you would behave that way with a childhood friend just to make him keep his distance, unless she knew exactly what type of person he really is. Another point that makes me think this is the case, Dong Joo does not seemed surprised in the least that he was the one that set fire and killed almost all of the widows. Just the amount of destruction alone should have given her some pause, but she just simply asks him, "The burning of the widow village was you, wasn't it?" in such a bland, unsurprised tone. Feel free, if I missed something that explained this, to tell me or if I'm just completely crazy you can let me know lol. Thank you for listening to me babble. :)
Okay, I have way too much time to sit and just speculate on this drama, but please bear with me. I have a possible theory regarding Dong Joo's and Yoo Mul's relationship that has nothing to do with any important plot points, but I thought it might be fun to discuss and see what other people think. I'll list it as the first comment below which will be hidden by the spoiler option because it will talk about specific plot points.
I swear the director loves to show JDY's abs... haha.. and I'm not complaining^^. I just thought the scene in…
I am all about that wet hair look lol! Also, totally agree about the contrasts of soft girly/manly stuff. Him in pink doing an elegant fan dance with that smexy look on his face and flashes of abs?! *swoon* I think the director knows exactly what he's doing lol
In my opinion, if she wanted to come back so soon it might have been better if she had started doing more charity works in the public eye rather than jumping back into beauty and movies. But if people are still willing to buy the products that she makes/endorses, then she should be able to come back. The power is really in the hands of the buying public. *shrugs*
The leads had amazing chemistry and there was a nice mature feeling to their actions. But the story just felt really bland to me. I completed it, but it was a struggle.
I think your perception is on point. The Virtuous Women Corp is supposed to be the comic relief collective; two…
You've hit the nail on the head. I agree that fat often equals funny in most cultures of the world. And, unlike the west where feminism (and subsequently body positivity) have been around for decades, Korea is only at the beginning of such a cultural change. While these particular characters are comic relief, I do see them as a step in the right direction. They are funny, yes, but they are also strong and happy. They are not slovenly, lazy, or isolated from the group and have not been covered in food for laughs. They are being portrayed as warm, kind, and very likable. So, while they are not the end goal of representation, they are at least positive characters in the drama. It is small progress, yes, but progress none the less. Sidenote: I'm half way thru the drama Perfume which seems to be all about this topic of fat/thin in Korean society. It might go downhill at the end so I can't say what the end message will be, but it's an interesting portrayal so far. Just including it in case anyone wants a more focused drama on this topic.
Great article!! I, too, am not very informed on Japanese shows. I can see someone being disgruntled about it if a million very similar wanna-be shows started popping up after the fact. But you can't be mad at the original show for creating something and then everyone else trying to use that same formula.
