I think I first saw something similar to this in 'Shine' the series' comment section, another show with political texture from Thailand as well but with its story in different time, 60's-70's.

Oh wow, I really like 'Shine', another show with political texture. From the recent 'Thailand Y Content Award' event, the actor Son Yuke from 'Shine' won Best Supporting Actor award. 'Shine' won Best Directing and Best OST. awards as well. Hope you'll watch it and will like it too.

According to Thai monarchy, they have three princely ranks, with the highest one being the children of the King and Queen, and then the farther generations from a king, the lower the princely ranks. So the children, grandchildren, and probably great-grandchildren of a king remained princes, but their titles in Thai are different words according to their generations from the King, determining their different princely ranks but maybe got lost in translation as they’re all just basically called ‘prince’ in English. The children of the princes with lowest rank are no longer entitled to any princely rank and their descendants will finally become commoners, only with their royal last names to represent their royal lineage.

Oh that kind of makes me nervous too. Since Thin's full given name means ‘the sun’ and the name Phob means ‘earth’, and the OST’s name is ‘First Light’ mentioning dawn as first light of a new day, so 'The Edge of Horizon' is where they meet.

But then with the lyrics like "as long as the sun can still meet the earth at daybreak... even if for a fleeting moment"..., would this mean that their time together will be little...? Just hope for a happy ending that they can finally be together.

Coming from ‘ONE31’, very much a Thai ‘lakhon/lakorn’ soap opera/melodrama production channel, this BL drama is already supposed to become really ‘lakhorn’ style. So, overacting can surely be expected at times, overall it’s good though.

A few hundred years ago in Ayutthaya Kingdom it was all right for cousins to get married. In the original 2018 'Love Destiny' which was a straight lakhon/lakorn drama, Rueang fell for his cousin and they finally got married.

It’s a common thing in Thailand as well for a couple to live with a parent/parents. In this case I guess it was either the couple’s choice that the two of them just wanted to live alone, or mutual decision between them and his mother that they wouldn’t live together.

This is a BL remake of ‘Love Destiny’ from 2018 which is not a BL show but a regular straight lakhon/lakorn drama and became very popular in Thailand at that time. It’s based on the novel which came out way before ‘Love upon a time’. Some say that ‘Love upon a time’ got inspired from the 2018 ‘Love Destiny’.

As a lakorn drama, the OG ‘Love Destiny’ was quite long with 15 episodes and each episode longer than 1.5 hours since a lot of things happened in there. I kind of wonder how they’ll wrap up this BL version within 10 episodes. This BL ‘Love Destiny’ is probably the first series as a BL remake from a straight show.

We still don't know about their next series yet. Their next project will be "Love of Siam", the musical, around the end of this year.

Right, this is not a new or unique plot or premise, since quite a lot of this has been done in western queer media content. Well, as for this case I guess they produced the series for their domestic viewers as much as for international viewers. The majority of viewers in Thailand is not Christians, and perhaps is not as very much exposed to such western queer media content as in the west. We don’t seem to see such a lot of this in Asian BL/GL series, and this is probably the first for Thai BL/GL shows. It’s just not a new groundbreaking plot for viewers from the west in more Christian-based countries. This one doesn't come from the west though, and within the scope of its domestic environment/context, this topic or subject matter is kind of something relatively new in the series’ country of origin.

I guess they produced the series for domestic viewers as much as for international viewers, and maybe they wanted to show that for those viewers in the series’ country of origin especially to make it easier for them. The majority of viewers in Thailand is not Christians, and while some of those have basic knowledge about Christianity and could just guess from what art or painting that referred to without difficulty, but perhaps not every one of them could do that easily. It’s possible that some others might not be very familiar with that. Unfortunately it just turned out to appear too obvious for viewers from more Christian-based countries.
