a simplified adaptation with no substance to stand alone
while this season wasn't bad it had many flaws that at first I couldn't pick point but after doing another rewatch, I can finally give a proper review.
Throughout the beginning of season 2 it sets up the antagonist and how they will affect Se-iun, that's great in all but the problem lies when the pacing doesn't work so we can't really root nor understand why this gang is trying to get to multiple schools involved and how that's has to do with baku and the rest of the main characters until the very end where it is revealed it's all done to donate, and that could have work but the pacing didn't give enough time to set this up.
the characters felt bleak and didn't have a spark like in the manhwa nor the first season, it felt like all these characters just where there and didn't contribute to the story, and when they did they contributed for and episode or two then left or some how became supporting roles, for example, where introduced to Seo Jun Tae(Eugene gale) and how he is being bullied and taken advantage of by the school bully Hyo man, and due to Se-iun Jun Tae stands up for himself and stops being "cowardly" but after that it felt like Jun Tae was just a side character with a half-ass character development. this doesn't only happen to Jun Tae in the story but he stood out to me.
next, Se-iun didn't feel like this was his story, nor did it try to involve him in it, Instead of having a calculated Se-iun we had last season we have a guy who doesn't properly think over his actions, I love how we see his internal discussions with bumsoek in the later episode with showed some kind of character development, but that development should have been shown more and and a slower steady pace then it was. what made me mad about seiun's character this season was how we lacked a resemblance on the affects he gained from last season, yes he feels guilt and sadness, but not as complex nor as a character who is fully against making new friends shown by how fast he gets all friendly with Jun Tae
the charm that season 1 had was just not there for this season, it feels more of an empty story with no substance... scenes feel repetitive and stale while others serve no purpose at all in my opinion, the situation that the characters last season felt somewhat realistic(in the realm of action kdrama) but this season all reason is gone the situation that is encounter, and I wouldn't be so annoyed by this due to the fact that the manhwa ain't that realistic, but from the stand point of season 1 it just doesn't work.
the villains didn't feel like threats nore threatening and felt like one dimensional characters just doing stuff for nothing, the only villain that had some depth was Na Baek Jin(Donald)and his actions but after that that wasn't fully developed for the viewer to get in thrilled in his story, it felt like I was being bothered when any scenes with baku and Na Baek Jin's character should up, like I get they where friends who fell apart but the point of story is showing not telling, I want to see their fall out and not just see these scenes where they mentioned how they aren't friends....
lastly, I just felt like this season didn't create any good memories for me like at all, nothing was memorable and many episodes where unbearable to watch, I was bored for many scenes and if not bored confused due to the lack of pacing nor actual thrilling writing of this season it felt rushed, boring, a waist of time, and lackluster at best. but at the end of the day these are all my opinions, can can disagree with me, but this is how I feel.(also is whc2 getting a 3rd season, cause I need it to stop here, this should be its last season....)
