Ten Years of Loving You (十年一品温如言)
Going into this movie, I knew I was in for an
emotional ride, but I wasn't fully prepared for how heavily it would pull at my heartstrings. The story follows Wen Heng (played by Ren Min) and Yan Xi (played by Ding Yuxi) over a span of ten turbulent years.
It all begins when Wen Heng, who grew up away from her biological family in a quiet southern water town, is brought back to her wealthy birth family in Beijing. Feeling out of place and unwelcome in her own home due to her adopted sister's jealousy, she ends up staying next door under the care of Yan Xi—a bold, protective, and deeply caring young man. Watching their bond grow from awkward housemates into pure, unconditional young love was easily my favorite part of the first half. Ding Yuxi and Ren Min have incredible chemistry on screen; you can genuinely feel how much warmth they bring into each other's quiet worlds.
Just as their love blossoms, life tears them apart. Yan Xi suddenly leaves for the US without giving a clear explanation, leaving Wen Heng heartbroken to pick up the pieces, throw herself into her studies, and eventually become a doctor. Fast forward seven years, and Yan Xi reappears in her life. At first, the distance, misunderstandings, and sudden reappearance feel painfully frustrating. But as the true reasons behind his long absence and secret struggles are revealed, the story takes a heavy, dramatic shift into trauma and sacrifice.
What I Loved:
* The Emotional Performances: Ren Min portrays Wen Heng's quiet resilience and heartbreak so delicately, while Ding Yuxi captures both the playful charm and hidden agony of Yan Xi effortlessly.
* The Loyalty of Their Bond: Despite seven long years apart, new partners entering the picture, and health/trauma struggles, neither of them ever truly moves on. Their devotion to one another is the core of the whole film.
* Cinematography & Visuals: The contrast between the soft, peaceful southern water town in their youth and the bustling, cold reality of Beijing adds a lovely atmospheric touch.
Where It Stumbled:
* Pacing & Drama Overload: Trying to fit a ten-year timeline and an entire novel's worth of plot—family rivalry, sudden separations, medical drama, and traumatic secrets—into a 104-minute film made some scenes feel rushed. It jumps quickly from one tragic conflict to another without giving us much room to breathe.
Final Verdict:
While the plot leans heavily into classic melodrama and tear-jerking tropes, Ten Years of Loving You is ultimately a beautiful, bittersweet story about a love that survives time, distance, and immense pain. If you love angst-filled romances with strong lead performances that will leave you reaching for a box of tissues, it's definitely worth the watch.
