Am not ashamed to admit that I was one of those 40+ year olds who went to watch the movie sequel due to nostalgia and curious about how the Hong Siu Long and Qin Emperor story ended.
I feel that 7.7 points for the drama in MDL is a bit low for the overall entertainment experience the 2001's A Step Into the Past; which was the 1st time travelling to Qin dynasty or any ancient dynasty drama in Chinese language. The tvb classic series typically average 8+ due to its originality and the pop culture instilled in the minds of audience.
The movie is not too bad if judging by acting alone from Louis Koo and Raymond Lam's s master disciple chemistry.
Production spending c.HKD400m, around HKD1xxm paid to TVB for the rights😱...so do hope Louis Koo get back his capital 😅and some decent profit.
This is definitely Nezha's come back drama!! Love her poise and decisive role as Rong family Eldest Daughter. Hope Li Qin has a good chance like Nezha.
Should hv ended at 30 or 32 at most. I feel 30 to 40 had many " water filled" episodes about 3x ten thousand year olds demons and Bingzhu and Pianpian that i had to maintained 3xxx fast forward at the app.
It was pretty good at the 1/3 and 2/3 was also acceptable as there story progress and new facts. But 3/3 didnt resonate with me although it was happy ending. 7.8 points for me.
Flourished Peonies distribution in Mango TV was a big surprise knowing Yang Zi star power, esp after Yang Yang's first Mango TV drama with Wang Chu Ran ... didnt actually bring Fireworks but bad reviews.
Not yet released but breached 105k+ comments is no easy feat. Only Yang Yang's 2025 The Mortal Ascension has this type of hype for any pre-released Cdrama.

Just started ep 1-5 and felt a very entertaining and refreshing idol drama! Esther Yu and He Yu totally nailed the characters well.
I would consider this drama high budget as the production team build the entire fictional BKK , clearly from Thailand.
