Loved the article nicely written :) I have one question, Why is everyone talking about "rape" "rape…
"nobody deserves to be judged for speaking up their mind"
Are you sure about this? Sounds like a poor excuse to me. I mean, everyone is allowed to speak out their minds/opinions, but what if someone says "I hate puppies, they should be killed"? Does that mean that opinion shouldn't be judged or there is some sort of exception or limit to what should and should not be judged? I don't see why I should RESPECT every opinion out there, that's not only outrageous but also dumb.
p.s. it seems I'm late for the party cuz the comments were deleted and I didn't read them :p What happened, I don't remember being (that) aggressive hmm
I really liked this article but I must say that I don't think It's Okay That's Love is in the Slap and Kiss category!!!…
There's nothing misleading about it, the guy gets slapped by the chick for no reason whatsoever, it is a form of a milder slap n kiss drama even though it does not fit into the genre 100%. There's no need to feel butthurt.
I tried watching slap & kiss dramas and realized that it made me angry. I guiltily watched Sealed With a Kiss…
You're right, however, about '50 Shades of Grey' (which I'm not a fan of) but I still know that it is different than slap and kiss because the main guy NEVER forced himself on the main chick. Everything they did was mutual and she knew what she was getting into. While in Asian dramas, the chicks get attacked before they're in any relationship whatsoever.

I didn't use It's Okay That's Love's gif in order to show it as a slap and kiss drama (tbh I haven't even watched it so I don't know if there are more slaps), I used it because of the slap and because it fits the atmosphere :) That drama wasn't mentioned anywhere in the article.

@Marooya
The article is a criticism towards the industry that promotes violence towards women and that includes people who by enjoying it promote it as well. I am curious about other people's opinions but that does not mean that I shouldn't respond to them or judge them if there is sth I think that should be judged. You are free to judge my article as well.
Additionally, you missed the whole point (have you even watched any lakorns or read the whole article?), there are many scenes in these dramas that are about rape, because the males are often threatening the women with it and they often carry out those threats. The fact that these females end up being married to their rapists and abusers is the proof that the violence is pretty much condoned. Since you find the situation in which a woman gets kissed/touched forcefully by a man she finds disgusting "hot and desirable", what does that say about you and your character?
You said that you are "put off by sex and lust in dramas" but you still love it when the female characters get men's sexual feelings forced upon them and see it as romantic? I call that a you-should-visit-a-psychiatrist situation because it's quite contradictory.
p.s. don't you get tired for liking your own comments? Like, seriously...

Then you should google the definition of "rape" because you don't know what it is. Even if there wasn't any rape, I'd still find it "hateful" because I do not like violence and abuse which is condoned.
Anyone know of some Japanese dramas that could be called "slap and kiss"?
Yeah but at the same time, the Japanese are probably the most perverted out there, I mean, they've got a porn genre about rapes and other creepy stuff, but on the other hand I'm glad they do not use that trope in dramas, I mean, at least I have not seen any dorama with such normalized abuse. It's very contradictory, it's as if they're so stuffy in normal everyday life but when you scratch under the surface you get so surprised.
now about the deeper meanings of it ...ok im not sure about myself yet i still have so many things to figure out…
Wow, thanks for sharing your experience, it's always nice to have people who talk about their country's culture in an unbiased way. And I agree, the girls do defend themselves by slapping, but the bigger problem is the guys who jump and force themselves on them. But at the same time, the same girls are forced by the society to always play hard to get, so... it's a never-ending circle I guess.
I'll get hated for saying this, but Qian Yue and Vivienne are so unattractive that they have the perfect villain faces. I just can't look at them without getting annoyed.

It's interesting that I cannot really recall any slap n kiss Japanese dramas. I would even go so far to say that doramas are the least violent of all Asian dramas out there. I don't even remember much wrist grabbing in their shows. I'm not sure why tbh but I'm glad.
