Good episode, I love Ai and Ni, they’re so quick witted and I love it! Have to say this is really hard though, usually I start watching airing shows after 3 episodes have aired and it just feels so short + the cliffhanger this time too! Ton has got to be the most utterly oblivious lead ever to grace dramaland, although that makes it entertaining.
I’d love to see Mike in another main role at some point, regardless of genre, I very much appreciate his acting, he and Toptap work very well as a duo here. Pod and Khao doing well also. :)
completely off topic but if you have never seen it before Midsummer murders, the British show is pretty good.…
I have watched Midsomer Murders (I live in the UK, so I don’t see US/Canadian stuff until a few months after release usually, and only if there’s demand for it), it’s good but there’s other crime dramas I prefer if I’m honest (I struggle with long episodes). Thanks for recommending it though! And you are right about the stories, there’s a couple that stand out in my mind even now from watching it with my mother a few years ago.
Can the actors actually play piano? I was worried about it because most of the time music scenes make me cringe by being blatantly wrong (especially piano and violin scenes), but it appears that at the very least musicians were hired for shots of hands playing piano, so I can’t tell if it’s doubles or the actors yet..? (Part way through episode 1 and I haven’t spotted any incorrect fingerings or rhythms yet when the focus is on the hands playing piano)
Note : I am particular about this because I happen to be a musician and (next year) music major, hence the question..?
Eleven episodes we went through for them to say 'We're boyfriends', to kiss AND then for Pai's parents to see…
I find the pacing irritating too, as I’ve also noticed that many Thai BL ramas are either like this - spending way too long to build up to a relationship that doesn’t happen until the end with little to no development opportunity OR getting to the relationship too quickly without allowing any development along the way, and leaving it making not much sense.
It would be great if more dramas had more balanced story arcs - with the first half or so focused on the characters getting to know each other and then somewhere around 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the show addressing the feelings with development of the relationship in the remainder - this would give room for any dilemmas and setbacks the writers want to have without leaving the last two episodes sloppy.
I feel like where they went wrong here was that too many episodes were in high school, half of the show was there when the idea was that the main story happens at university, if high school had been 1-3 episodes rather than 6 this could have worked much better. Not to mention that the two main leads are seeing NO character development (it’s crushing me, because even if it isn’t written, the actors aren’t making the characters interesting themselves either, no offence). The only character that has had any significant development is Pure, with Folk and Waan getting small amounts of development.
Sorry about the rant, I do strongly agree with your comment though!
There isn’t subtitles, but there are rough translations at places in the comments, didn’t realise this would be here on MDL though, I assumed it was some kind of music video..? It’s good :)
Ooh, do I see a Lesbian Character tag? I hope it’s true, because while I’m all for BL and gay representation, I can’t think of a lesbian character apart from the one in Water Boyy, I’d love to see that too, it’s much rarer to see represented on screen. Also looking forward to this based off of the cast list :)
I do hope that they mix things up a bit and don’t have all the same ships, while I don’t mind seeing the same actors in multiple things, I do like it when they have different and unexpected combinations too. Also fingers crossed this isn’t going to be a massive crossover between all the different shows these actors have been in..
Also noticed in the teaser the same stairs from 2gether (and some other series too).
Pure and Folk are more interesting to me here, as well as Waan, main cp not really doing much for me... I do like Aun and Fiat especially in this, their acting is on point, as well as JJ who I’ve seen before :)
Also, I thought that we escaped the ep.11 curse (finally!) only to see the trailer for the final episode looking like an unfortunate train wreck..? When will the Thai BL writers realise that it’s okay to have conflict that gets resolved and stays resolved, preferably without throwing one last knife at the viewers right towards the finale. Oh well...
Okay, so the first episode was better than I’d expected, having seen some comments I was a bit concerned, but I actually really enjoyed it. There was a couple of slight cringe moments but there was a couple very funny ones too, I’m looking forward to more of this.
The first scene threw me for a loop, I haven’t watched The Untamed, but have seen enough to get the reference and find that scene pretty entertaining in it’s own right. Usually I’ve noticed that when characters in a BL are watching a BL, it’s usually an actual show I’ve already seen. I appreciated the originality and opportunity by having original content and making it a parody. Reminded me of “What’s Wrong With My Mother In Law” from Search : WWW, and I enjoyed the satire and absurdity of both that and this, and props to the writers because it’s fun and memorable.
all 4 of them were rehearsing an interactive stageplay kinda thing so the casting for Sun Bo Xiang and Lu Zhi…
Thank you! I’m kind of relieved, although I do like the other two actors I’m glad they didn’t recast, because although it would be nice to see them in their own right (I would like that), it wouldn’t help MODC in terms of the fact people already have mixed feelings.
Does anyone know the song playing when Tang Yi and Andy / Shao Fei and Yi Qi are slow dancing in the club/bar episode 6 (or episode 3 on Viki)? I love the song but don’t know the title or who it is by.
UPDATE : I found it, it’s called “Woke up from Us” by HUSH - although it won’t come up if you search for it, and the only place I can find it is iTunes, and a slightly different arrangement of the song played in the show, but the singer is really good!
Because tbh I think it's not that hard for them to show a quick "after x years" reunion scene but they didn't…
While I agree with you, a season 2 looks unlikely. Although I would definitely like and watch a season 2, I don’t think it’s desperately needed.
I know the ending didn’t have an “after x years” scene, but Jack and Zhao Zi’s ending was definitely happy, and I’d also go as far as to say Shao Fei and Tang Yi’s ending is on the happy side, as they’re relived the mystery is solved and the only reason Tang Yi’s going to prison is because he shot Shao Fei. To that I’d say fair enough, and Shao Fei did say something about watching over / visiting Tang Yi, as well as waiting for him. When I first finished this, while a bit anticlimactic - I was happy, because it showed a hopeful conclusion and Tang Yi did need to do the time, so it felt fair to me. I was sad that it was all over though.
At the time of the accident Hao Ting was too shocked to do anything, his parents and Yu Xi Gu's aunt were at the…
Well, to be honest I hope not... of all the possible versions this seems the cruelest - both to Yu Xi Gu and Xiang Hao Ting, this would just prove the evilness of the writers as far as I’m concerned! I prefer the scenario of Yu Xi Gu not having amnesia and Hao Ting having nightmares/PTSD about the accident, even though that doesn’t sound ideal either..... (poor Hao Ting) Although I would LOVE it if the writers decided to say “Hey! You know that last episode, that never happened!” and then pick up where we had left off before - or write the whole last episode off as some weird one off dream that never happened, those would be my ideal scenarios. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Why was ep 8 4/4 removed from YouTube? Seems a bit random....
Also, I really like this so far, there were a few acting slip ups (forgivable, just threw me a couple times) with side cast but the leads are great, and also this show gets better, the first couple of episodes weren’t that great but after that I love it!
EDIT : I’ve seen it now and still doesn’t make that much sense, seeing as there’s some way more iffy stuff I’ve seen on YouTube (looking at Japanese and Thai Films in particular). Also, I know about a scene in episode 11 of this that is still up in spite of being more out there than this one....
Okay, looking further, have they recast Sun Bo Xiang and Lu Shi Gang? There’s a photo of Wayne Song, Huan Juan Shi, and then Mu Ji Hsu (lead from Because of You (2020)) and Hsiu Fu Liu (an actor I haven’t seen before) seen before talking about rehearsals going well. No sign of the actors who originally played Sun Bo Xiang and Lu Shi Gang...?
This has not been confirmed, this is just my suspicion judging by the recent social media posts.
Is it confirmed that it's happening?? I really want a ss2 right now!!!!
They’re definitely filming/in pre-production from what is all over social media, I just don’t know when we can expect this to air. If you look at the main cast’s recent Instagram posts, you’ll see what I mean :)
Was it Until We Meet Again levels of crying then? I’m planning on starting this, and I’ll probably skip most…
Oki doki! Thanks, I’ll take the crying with a pinch of salt (or a bucket of it), UMWA features crying in every single episode - often multiple times, although really only one character.
I’d love to see Mike in another main role at some point, regardless of genre, I very much appreciate his acting, he and Toptap work very well as a duo here. Pod and Khao doing well also. :)
