also since i feel like XLH as a character isn’t talked about enough, here is a list i have compiled of why she…
-she is not willing to let her friends be cannon fodder! i feel like a lot of times “good hearted” female leads are be willing to sacrifice for others but not end up following through and letting them die (with the exception of the ML). as air-headed as XLH is, she’s def ride or die, as seen with jie li plus that beast scene with dan yin
-she’s not wishy-washy with her feelings and doesn’t take forever to decide that she likes someone. PLUS rejects the second male lead clearly and cleanly (multiple times too!)
-ya girl is BRAVE. she is willing to leave her home for another and stand up to all that she knows in order to protect the one she loves. not only that, but instead of hiding behind DFQC’s protection, she fights to stand beside him! that scene where she volunteers herself to withstand torture in order to prove herself as future moon queen is so badass!
-adding onto the previous point: she sets clear boundaries! she is not willing to be someone who is always protected. she makes it clear that DFQC should not always be the one who gives. now that they are about to be married, they should be equals who share each other’s burdens.
-she’s always taking the initiative and never gives up! from trying to solve DFQC’s emotional root problem to clearing the misunderstanding between him and his father. also, i literally squealed when she beat him to proposing!!
-lastly, she may be dense with other subjects, but she does not play around when it comes what’s important! there was a time where CH revealed her true identity and pinned the blame of killing her whole clan onto DFQC, but she did not let that sway her. she clearly distinguishes what is important to her and sees the bigger picture. there were also many times where DFQC tried to lie to her, but she always figured it out. she was hurt, yes, but it was more because she was disappointed that he would even try to deceive her instead of confiding in her (but i dont blame him because it was inevitable)
just finished watching and am experiencing some major withdrawal symptoms!! only binging the bts and osts can temporarily sustain me. honestly didn’t expect much going into this because xianxia dramas aren’t usually my cup of tea, but i am so pleasantly surprised. From the plot, cgi, costumes, to directing- i can’t find myself giving any complaints. (the only complaint is the drama is too short!!) dylan wang as DFQC completely blew me away! but yu shuxin is also amazing and i don’t hear enough about her! she’s basically the living embodiment of XLH. one of the few to play “silly white sweet” characters that don’t annoy me, and her voice is actually quite endearing as you get used to it.
i see ppl mentioning the top dramas like AoL, TMoPB, but tbh this one tops the list for me. it may not be as intricate plot wise, but what i like most is that it’s logical and solid in terms of development. there’s no lapse in rational just for the sake of plot. additionally, despite the fact that there’s a major power imbalance between the couple for the majority of the drama, i don’t feel like one deserved the other more. XLH may be weak, but she doesn’t hide behind that as an excuse.
