If the last photo Mom has is that graduation photo, it makes sense she carries it in her purse at all times.

I thought about her hidden identity when she was dropped in front of the old shaman's house. It's like she's probably a noble daughter but because of her psychic ability, she was banished secretly in the forest during a rainy night and deemed as dead.
