True... unfortunately a lot of C-dramas (even the long ones) use cookie-cutter plots because they are more popular and most important are guaranteed to pass the censorship.

For me, the best romance dramas if they have a wholesome happy ending and real kisses. Based on the above criteria, then my picks for modern dramas are Love in the Tea Garden and Drunk to Love You. The historical/costume drama is Thousands of Years of Love.
