Yes, Season 1 followed the novel more closely! I also felt the story shifted midway, making Xiang Liu seem like the main hero, while Cang Xuan felt completely overshadowed, it almost felt like he was just a supporting character. 😅
No worries about not connecting with Jing. Everyone has different preferences, and that’s what makes discussions interesting. As long as we respect each other’s POVs, we can always agree to disagree. If everyone liked the same things, it’d be boring! ☺️
I get why Jing might seem passive and whiny from a modern perspective, but in his world, filial piety and duty to his clan restricted his choices. His grandmother constantly reminded him of his responsibilities, and as a noble, he had little freedom. Marriage among royalty and nobles was about alliances, not love in ancient times. Jing couldn’t crash Xiao Yao’s wedding himself as he was already married, and the political status of Xiao Yao and Feng Long made things even more complicated. The novel likely explains this better. Also, Xiang Liu could have refused Jing’s request to crash the wedding, but he didn’t. It takes two hands to clap.
When LYF first aired, the hostility toward Jing / Deng Wei and his fans was intense. Jing was called all kinds of derogatory names. Even now, non-Jing fans dominate the LYF pages, shutting down new Jing fans. While less aggressive now, it’s still unpleasant. The non Jing fans also do not acknowledge Deng Wei, despite him being a part of the cast. They post updates on TJC and ZWY etc but ignore to mention DW’s Divine Tree or how Jing was voted Tencent’s Most Loved Character of 2024, with Xiao Yao coming in second. Xiang Liu did not make it into the Top 10 of this list. With the fans of one character dominating the page and shutting everything else down, that page lacks real discussion.
It’s great to see open minded non-Jing fans giving Deng Wei a chance and being impressed by his performance in Divine Tree and becoming his fan. DT drama did really well! I first saw Deng Wei in TTEOTM, and he’s grown so much from drama to drama. Btw, have you seen his BTS from Take Me Where The Clouds Rise? There are a few actors who come to mind who I think look so much better in modern dramas. They cannot carry off the look of a costume drama perfectly. Handsome but still something missing.

I was smiling ear to ear for SYS and RR. It was the most satisfactory ending I have seen in a long long time. That was the ending I wanted to see for Weiwei's Jing in LYF. LOTDT's ending made up for it.
I have always enjoyed Weiwei's acting. It is good to see him growing drama to drama. The opening scene of SYS walking through the bamboo forest in white flowy robes...😍🤤And that hair! White and Wavey changing into Black and Curly....GORGEOUS!!! I need a group buy for all the hair products and styling tools used!!! LOL I can just watch Weiwei walk through bamboo forests in the snow all day. 🍿😍🤤😁 I hope he had some Heatech on whilst filming that scene. It looks so cold.
No, Baby Tu was just hidden away from her dad by Elder Tu. In the novel, I think Elder Tu went into the Dragon island and stayed there. Wei Jiu could not easily get in as I think there is some sort of "force field" over it. Can't blame Elder Tu for hiding away with her daughter though, Wei Jiu is such a thick headed idiot and not to mention the WORST house guest ever. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Finishing the Acoholic Immortal's finest wines and gate crashing on SYS and RR's lovey dovey moments. It was hilarious how SYS was staring daggers at WJ and he was so thick skinned about it. I think even RR was annoyed at being interrupted and told WJ to shut his trap and just eat the buns. 🤣😂😆
I liked the Vermillion Bird and Dragon CGI. Beautifully done. But Weiwei is just so impressive. We can see his improvements. He is not just a pretty face with no talent, he would not have been able to last so long if he just has a face card. Proud of him.

Yes indeed! The Jing character isn’t for everyone, but some are so affected by it that they lose interest in Deng Wei’s new dramas, because they associate him with Jing, which is a pity.
